The pond has only got one posting in it today - the wider world, beyond the pleasure of reptile watching, calls - and had wanted to start its TGIF musings about the way that News 24 last night interrupted its screening of The Drum, for no particular reason ...
The anonymous figures behind the control panel decided that "breaking news" compelled a break. The pond was expecting a new terrorist or a Donald shock story, perhaps two trillion going missing in the budget, and no one able to find it, or whatever ...
Instead the master controller cut away to a smirking, unctuous Malware making one of the most pathetic and nauseating speeches about the y'artz the pond has ever had to endure ... and then when it was done and dusted, the channel returned to a news update, with all talk of The Drum forgotten ... except for a brief card inviting viewers to turn to iView if they wanted to keep watching ...
The pond didn't turn to iView.
Instead it turned off 24, and made pointed remarks about the ABC to the partner, along the lines that if this was what the ABC thought of The Drum - as a useless, dull as ditchwater, compendium of blather by second hand or remaindered politicians, hustlers peddling their wares and minor media celebrities - why would anyone watch it?
What a relief then to see that this day's featured reptile posting is by shallow simpleton Sharri bleating about the ABC.
Surely Sharri would ensure that the pond's posting for the day would be a top notch draw card, a ratings hit.
Was it mere intuition and a meeting of minds with the pond that produced this synchronicity? Or was it part of the ongoing assault on the ABC being conducted by the mutton Dutton, and the jihadist fundamentalists at Quadrant?
The pond was compelled by the Sharri splash for starters. The dark web of our public broadcaster? So that was why they'd cut away to admiring coverage of the smirking, nauseating Malware?
They were deep into TOR, encryption, VPNs and the like?!
Oh dear, the ABC down in the nether world of drug trafficking, illegal activities, political protests, perhaps piracy and all the other diseases of the dark web ...
Or could it just be that the pond was getting yet another dose of simplistic Sharri analysis, featuring a typical misuse and abuse of words, so that suddenly surface web activities turn into the deepest, darkest, direst "dark web"?
Actually, if we're starting off with weasel words of the "it could very well be" kind, it could very well be that one of the greatest threats to quality journalism in Australia is fuckwitted analysis of the Sharri and Terrorist kind, closely followed by the climate denial analysis of the lizards of Oz ...
After all, anyone who can misuse and abuse the notion of the "dark web" to trot out idle abuse of a kind suited to the mutton Dutton and the jihadists at Quadrant, while running desperate and pathetic kinds of low rent click bait trolling, isn't doing that much for quality journalism ...
Confidentially, the pond would rather poke out both eyes than click on that shit ...
Where was the pond? Oh that's right, off with Sharri blathering about quality journalism covering the housewives of Sydney ...
Uh huh, so the "dark web" is actually a way of talking about a perfectly normal SEO deal with google to maintain or enhance rankings ...
How much do the Murdochians spend doing the same? A figure, please ...
Sound of crickets, though it might explain why the allegedly "commercial" media, hiding behind a paywall and daring to make demands with menaces for potential readers to pay for complete crap is having such a hard time of late ...
It says something of the desperate, paranoid, conspiracy-theory seeking reptiles that they should see a standard practise as somehow "knowingly crippling ... commercial media rivals."
The reptiles have to pay to lure readers to their websites? Quality content doesn't do it? Is there any quality content to see, or is it Sharrified?
Settle, gentlemen readers, settle, get around behind, the pond is in search of quality content, and instead has landed on a moaning, groaning, whining, whinging reptile deep into paranoid conspiracy theories and much suffering ...
Say what? RN did a story about Russian prostitutes urinating on the President of the United States and the pond missed it?
Gough Whitlam?
Here's the top four hits if you google "Gough Whitlam" ...
The ABC barely sneaks on to the top page, second last, just ahead of the HUn, remembering that few go far down the front page, and few go beyond it ... and that google's search will return different results from different users ...
Hmm, what other results can the pond score?
Meanwhile, the Terrorists were churning out top quality investigative journalism on pizza, hooks, sinkers and princess weddings ...
Around this time the pond began to hunger for one of those classic Terror illustrations ... something that would sweep the pond back to the glory days of video games, with hints of Godzilla ...
By golly the reptiles know how to deliver ...
Dinkum Aussie media companies? What, the ones owned by an American citizen?
There is a strong argument the ABC should not have an online site at all?
Well if anyone's looking for back-up arguments, that's what's called a bald example of bare-faced stupidity, without any support by way of details explaining the "strong argument".
Think of the long suffering Australian taxpayer?
Well those who are comfortable with the dark web can reach down deep and google further content behind these headlines ... remember it's a dangerous part of the world and a VPN is handy ...
And so on and on and on ...
Every year the tax avoiding and evading company of reptiles squeals about the ABC, and competition, when all they have to serve up is content that consumers want to pay for ... you know, like "strong arguments" explaining why the ABC should revert to valve radios ...
The pond pays for some of its content ... it pays out for the New York Review of Books, it pays for The New Yorker, it has occasionally paid the NY Times, it happily sees a little of its tax bill go to the ABC, but hell will freeze over before it pays up for the sort of Sharri-lite shyte that passes for analysis in the Terror ...
The pond isn't a major user of the ABC, but then apart from being a dedicated follower of reptiles, it can get by without any use of News Corp either ...
It's not just the ABC that gives basic news away for free ...and that's the stupidity of the reptile ABC myopia, in which their flailed, flailing business model is blamed on the ABC rather than their own stupidity ...
What lunatic would suggest that the ABC get out of the digital space when in the next twenty years, delivery of most content will be online? (Well at least as much as Malware's totally fucked NBN allows ...)
That's just another way of saying the ABC should be defunded and decommissioned.
Well if the reptiles think their wailing will result in the federal government abandoning the ABC, so that the mutton Dutton can stride around without let or hindrance, they'll have a fight on their hands ... it might be a wretched institution, but it's still better than the corrupt and corrupting Murdochian empire ...
Oh just fuck off, go bleat to Chairman Rupert ... maybe he can explain why the likes of Chris Mitchell still thinks the future lies in killing trees ....
But the pond is content. Simpleton Sharri has produced a ripper. Many a crocodile has shed many a tear for many a reason over the years ...
Or ...
Mumbrella here ... as years later, many of the changes proposed have been belatedly adopted by News Corp, with centralisation all the go, albeit with a bit of regional branding for local colour...
And yet still the simpleton Sharris who infest the place don't get it, and probably never will ... moaning it isn't fair, and they're all out of their share, and demanding that the government do something about it ... like a bloody bunch of sook socialists ...
Just harden the fuck up, or give up and go away ...
Meanwhile, the immortal Pope also took up ABC matters ...
Oops, sorry, no, not that very happy Pope ... this Pope, here ...
And to make the pond's day complete, the immortal Rowe provided some required viewing, with more Rowe here ...
Sharri: "Aunty's funding increased from $865,540 million in 2008 ... to $1.04 billion this year."
ReplyDeleteBut Dearest Sharri, in the same period inflation of 1.97% in the AU$ has changed the value of $100 in 2008 to $119.17 in 2017. In short, if we multiply $865,540 million by 1.1917 we get $1.031 billion. In other words ABC funding has only marginally exceeded inflation from 2008 to now.
But then I guess there's no hope that a pop-up girlie could understand something that esoteric and recondite. She does work for the Murdochracy after all.
Rowe... so fucking good.
ReplyDeletePoor Trutton.
He reckons he can become PM by following the Trump playbook.
Too bad for him that when his time comes around, Trump will be very a bad memory and Australians will be sick of right wing policies.
"What is one of the greatest threats to quality journalism in Australia?"
ReplyDeleteFoolish woman. The greatest threat is Rupert Murdoch.
True he is a treasonous man the earlier he meets his demise the better what an ugly face the wrinkled up old bastard has
DeleteOh Dorothy, it's after 1pm and I miss you already! Come back soon.....
