Either you are a Catholic, or you are a feminist ... but you can't be both ...

So many choices, so little time ...

Over at the Terror, there was a choice between  the narcissist irrelevance back on parade, presumably with no arms to break, or Catherine McGregor coming to a remarkable conclusion about Afghanistan ...

Inter alia, and showing how confused and deranged the pond's mind has become after years of reptile encounters, the pond was reminded of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI (how weird to be an emeritus Pope) talking about TG people back in December 2012:

"The Chief Rabbi of France, Gilles Bernheim, has shown in a very detailed and profoundly moving study that the attack we are currently experiencing on the true structure of the family, made up of father, mother, and child, goes much deeper. While up to now we regarded a false understanding of the nature of human freedom as one cause of the crisis of the family, it is now becoming clear that the very notion of being - of what being human really means - is being called into question." "He quotes the famous saying of Simone de Beauvoir: "one is not born a woman, one becomes so" (on ne naît pas femme, on le devient). These words lay the foundation for what is put forward today under the term "gender" as a new philosophy of sexuality. According to this philosophy, sex is no longer a given element of nature, that man has to accept and personally make sense of: it is a social role that we choose for ourselves, while in the past it was chosen for us by society." "The profound falsehood of this theory and of the anthropological revolution contained within it is obvious. People dispute the idea that they have a nature, given by their bodily identity, which serves as a defining element of the human being. They deny their nature and decide that it is not something previously given to them, but that they make it for themselves. According to the biblical creation account, being created by God as male and female pertains to the essence of the human creature. This duality is an essential aspect of what being human is all about, as ordained by God."

Just the usual sort of rabid claptrap to be expected from Adam and Eve types, unwilling to acknowledge or admit the rich diversity of sexuality in all its forms, but typical of a patriarchy wanting to hold on to power at all cost ... which in turn curiously led the pond to contemplate and marvel at the chutzpah of one Stephen Chavura furiously scribbling this day for the reptiles of Oz ...

The obvious biblical reference here?

Of course even in that quotation, the talk is of brothers, with sisters nowhere to be found ...

An equally useful reference might be the starting point to Charles Mackay's (LL.D) Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, available in full at Project Gutenberg here:

Well yes, the delusion of witchcraft, just one of any number of sorry and vicious persecutions of women conducted by Christians in the name of their delusions ... which explains why the pond might write a piece just as easily titled: Either you are a Christian, delusional, angry Sydney Anglican, mad Papist or fundamentalist evangelical, or you are a feminist - but you can't be both ...

Why do stupid Christians think it's their right and place to pontificate about women and feminism as a way of shafting Islamics?

Well that's the way fuckwitted patriarchs have always done it ... so cue Stephen Chavura, the latest in a long, long line ...

It's astonishingly rich and stupid stuff, full on bigotry and yet not a word about why the only talk of a female Pope is likely apocryphal ...

More on Pope Joan here ...

Chavura is yet another of those blow-hard scribblers of nonsense that have found favour with the reptiles, and the Bolter ... because as well as pontificating on feminism, the bloviator has also found time to wage war on teh gays ...

If it wasn't for this ...

... that photo of Chavura would have reminded the wet, weedy, pale-faced Xians of the Scripture Union who used to roam around the union building when they might have more profitably been found haunting Booloominbah or perhaps the deer park (that's a UNE joke for those who never knew the pleasures of a provincial, rustic university)...

What do say about this?

How about this?

Does this mean that Catholicism and feminism can never be reconciled? To be honest, only history can tell, and probably stranger things have happened: witness the continuation of deep bigoted intolerance by sundry Catholic movements with very little connection to Christ's message over a couple of thousand years ...

To say that Catholicism is a feminist religion, or that anything useful can be derived from Catholics scribbling furiously about feminism makes about as much sense as saying that the Pope is a woman or that the papal conclave is littered with women in positions of high authority ...

Oh dear, as usual, the pond has got its motes and its messages confused ... here's the original wrap-up ...

Talk about an epic troll. The cheeky bugger even manages to sneak in an approving message about abortion and blame it on Islamics digging in their heels.

As of the tykes weren't obdurate in their desire to control women's bodies and keep them breeding in good faith for the greater benefit of the Ponzi scheme.

It's a reminder, if anyone doubted it, that the Abrahamic tradition has produced a lot in common between Catholic fundamentalists and Islamics when it comes to all sorts of social issues...

This is hardly surprising ... what's shocking and a little immodest is that Catholic bigots should try to dump all the bigotry on Islamics when Xians have their own proud traditions in relation to complimentary women ...

Well here's the thing. For whatever reason - the pond doesn't understand it, but will acknowledge that it happens - you can find women, some of whom think of themselves as feminists, engaged in all sorts of religions and arguing that the message applies equally to them, and they have an equal place in the sun in their church ...

To imagine that Islam is somehow different to Catholicism in this is the biggest horse laugh of the day ...

Just as irritating is the way the bravura trolling of the Chavura has forced the pond to ignore the reptiles rolling out Ken Henry, so that comrade Bill and the banks can form an unholy alliance ...

But at least it sets up a Rowe cartoon, with more excellent Rowe here ...

And once the pond gets on a Rowe roll, a Rowe jag as it were, it's hard to stop ...

  2. Note:

According to the time series data released with the 2011 census, the fastest growing religious classifications over the ten years between 2001 and 2011 were:

No religion – up from 15.2% to 22.1%
    Hinduism – up from 0.5% to 1.3%
    Buddhism – up from 1.9% to 2.4%
    Islam – up from 1.5% to 2.2%

Islam is only fourth. So when do we see the brave reptiles investigate feminism and (i) No religion (ii) Buddhism and (iii) Hinduism ?

And which Holy Book said this:

"I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."
