The pond is mortified. Yes, it's Oreo day, which means there's a delicious treat for everyone ...
...but at the same time, the pond is remorseful because it discovered a comment in its spam bucket regarding the Oreo.
What to do? Print it on the archived page, and guarantee its obscurity, or elevate it to a position of honour?
Of course it's a singularly important message.
Everyone should appreciate that the lizard Oz is not a mainstream media outlet ... and nor, it seems, are any of the other Murdochian rags.
Apparently the stunning business model deployed by the Fairfaxians make them the mainstream outlet of choice ...
Ah, we keed, we keed, and next time Jennifer, feel free just to sign in to make a comment ...
The pond is full of your admirers and the news that you needed to do a Donald (which is to say, a Miller or a Barron) would delight your many aficionados ...
And so to the Oreo of the day, which is exactly what the pond has come to expect from an outlier, isolated, maverick, outsider, aberrant, anomaly of a rag ...determined to stand outside the mainstream of placid "fair go, fair suck of the raw prawn" dinkum Tamworthian culture ...
Around this point, with the humbugging Oreo doing her standard line in bigotry and bile, the pond wondered what the result would be if it googled "Malcolm Turnbull gutless wonder" ...
What do you know, the first piece that the pond eyeballed began this way ...
More at the Saturday Paper here - though it might cost the one free view a month ...
And speaking of gutless wonders and dogs catching cars and not having the first fucking clue what to do with it, one google led to another and the next thing you know the pond was reading this passionate plea by some ancient doofus who seemed to share some kind of affiliation with the current dog in power, who, having got himself into a position of power, doesn't have the first clue what to do with it, or how to go about it, so completely did he sell out to clutch hold of the precious and the poisoned chalice ...
The pond realised that as a result, Malware was likely to hijack the pond, sideline the Oreo, and take over the discussion, with a stream of consciousness rant about postal ballots ...
Actually, the most curious thing about politics is the way that a voluntary postal vote has returned from the grave like a brain-munching zombie ...
Of course the stench of hypocrisy can be disguised by the noble art of the politician, adept at changing positions and achieving new understandings and policy insights ... especially when in full blown gutless wonder mode ...
Yes, even the reptiles of Oz couldn't resist digging out that example of old copper NBN jellyback's outing for them way back when, and even they can't resist a joke at gutless wonder Malware's expense ...
But the pond must now apologise deeply for straying off into this Malware turf.
Normal outlier commentary will now resume, with the Oreo valiantly battling against the decline and fall of western civilisation, but sssh, please no mention of the ancient Greeks, whom it's well known had nothing to do with civilisation ...
Oh okay, that's enough teasing of Anon, there's more at Stanford here, and now here's a chunky, tasty last serve of the Oreo ...
And so to contented munching of a very familiar biscuit, full of the usual amount of junk carbs, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, fats and flour ...baked over a low flame of prejudice ...
How did the pond know that the Oreo was going to go with a postal plebiscite as the most constructive - read, likely to result in defeat - way forward?
Well, as Ronald Reagan allegedly once said, a politician cannot be all things to all people. He must have some kind of set of fundamental beliefs, which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to stay in power.
And yet Reagan himself was a failed politician, so what might be said about the man who produced an NBN disaster at the onion muncher's behest, routinely fails his once-beloved republic, and now might be a gutless wonder and renounce his thoughts on a postal vote ...
What earthly use does such a man serve?
For further insights, the pond likes to turn to the immortal Rowe, with more Rowe here ...
What a brilliant piece by the Oreo!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, she manages to accomplish so much, in so little. In this instance, she has been able to highlight the appalling hypocrisy at the heart of the Liberal party on this issue as well as her own blind partisanship and rank stupidity.
Indeed, Malcolm and those so-called moderates are destroying the Liberal 'broad church' foundation because, on her 'reading' the moderates are actually big government, big spending swamp monsters!!
They are social Liberals (whatever the fuck that means) instead of classical Liberals (whatever the fuck that means - presumably, something that our Lord and Saviour John Howard was).
The classic broad church (again, presumably) does not indulge 'self-interest', but rather forces everyone to tow the line on the plebiscite. Huh...
Because, as we all know, if politicians (you know, those people we voted for in a representative democratic election process) vote on a bill, it would 'deny democracy'. Seriously... how does this get to print? How can a supposed scholar in political science write this? Royal commission into her academic qualifications?
And this must be so (continuing on with the la-la logic) otherwise the 'conservative constituents' (hard right voters) will go to One Nation... at the next election... 2 years away... which is Malcolm's fault, naturally... such a thing is a certainty! Don't you dare doubt it!
If you do, you might get knifed by Dutton... just sayin'...
Meanwhile, in the real world, they could just vote on something which has popular support (70%+ in all polls - conveniently ignored by the Oreo), get the issue out of the way well before the next election and have plenty of time to win back any disgruntled voters (which, given the opinions of the right wing press, would probably go to One Nation anyway unless Tony was restored to the throne).
Dutton won't knife Turnbull because he can't hold government and the electoral fallout will be worse than if they simply legislated SSM.
Sad reality check for the Oreo: it turns out the 'conservative constituents' of the Liberal party are a (loud) vocal minority on this issue. Sucks to be them. Welcome to democracy.
If you don't like that, you can always set up your own news network at Trump Tower.
What is a political scientist & why do we need one? - if forced to choose for the ark you would definitely opt for the hairdresser or telephone sanitiser.
ReplyDeleteNot much in the way of logical argument here, just articles of faith, clubs you sign up for & can never abandon. A lot of historical revisionism too, the problem in 2016 wasn't disloyalty, it was the same one they have now, ABBOTT (& the incoherent nature of conservative thought).
As detailed above, you are looking at an extreme outlier here, someone that doesn't share much with the average person in understanding the roles of government or society & has real difficulty interpreting events outside her narrow worldview.
