No thanks to a nearby lightning strike, the pond’s NBN-supplied modem was completely fried, more fritz than a Mar-a-lago Halloween romp with Pauline, Gina, King Donald and saucy, scantily clad, deeply Xian women.
No worries, you propose. Malware’s mighty NBN will immediately spring into action and make things right.
And indeed they will. They have promised, Scout’s Honour, from the days when that meant something, to send along a fix in the next day or so, and make things right. Or maybe not, who knows?
Ah Malware, you’ve done it again. Why you invented the Optus internet! How lucky is the pond?!
The pond will return, but the precise timing is in the lap of the Malware gods, sadly by which time snaps of those cavorting, deeply Xian women will be a fading memory...
Being on that cockamamie 'tower to roof' compromise on compromise, that was supposed to be just so much better value for money, the estate has a day or two 'off' the NBN every few weeks, for reasons that are never spelled out to us. We are prone to saying, borrowing from an old commercial 'Thank you, Mis-tah Turn-bull'.
ReplyDeleteDP, I've just missed a call... booked & important... due to total sercice outage.
ReplyDeleteThe "provider" one of the only three, has had outages across SA & NSW.
We played phone tag for an hour. Have had to reschedule.
And outage times DO NOT MATCH the fob off bullshit from phone provider. I raised complaint and investigation. Wow! Productive!
If I'm 1 second late to pay bill, they charge a late fee of 33% of my bill plan.
Tried to tell ACMA. They said no, go on line to complain. No I said you need data NOW. And phone calls still are not allowing clear voice, so 3 retries after "outage" "fixed".
I guess Senate Estimates have cans and strings at the ready. Donated by the Proud to be Little No Net Zero Nats!
While we are waiting for "The pond will return, but the precise timing is in the lap of the Malware gods"...

Thought you may be interested in say... a DP ai style writer!
Well, Dorothy, Kez etc will be in the corpus of future AI's, and a "Chadwick", and the rest of us will be just "thin gruel" (so cruel gruel DP!) used just for the weights...
"Writing For The AIs

American Scholar has an article about people who “write for AI”, including Tyler Cowen and Gwern. It’s good that this is getting more attention, because in theory it seems like one of the most influential things a writer could do. In practice, it leaves me feeling mostly muddled and occasionally creeped out.
“Writing for AI” means different things to different people, but seems to center around:
• Helping AIs learn what you know.
• Presenting arguments for your beliefs, in the hopes that AIs come to believe them.
• Helping the AIs model you in enough detail to recreate / simulate you later.
Going through these in order"

"Is Deep Research deep? Is it research?"
by JOHN Q on SEPTEMBER 12, 2025
I’m working on a first draft of a book arguing against pro-natalism (more precisely, that we shouldn’t be concerned about below-replacement fertility). That entails digging into lots of literature with which I’m not very familiar and I’ve started using OpenAI’s Deep Research as a tool.

My view is that we are giving away humanity. To effing crazy techbro's. To our future detriment.
