In which Killer is in Killer form, the bro is in Killer form, and Mein Gott is the usual light comedy relief from the killing fields ...

Apropos of a correspondent noting that the Bolter was quick off the mark in the G-G handicap three miler, the pond should add that the reptiles of weren't slow to gee up in the gallop ...

Yep, Dame Slap led with "woke" but other pond correspondents had already predicted how the reptile storybook would play out, and it was a relief that the pond didn't have to pile on ...

Meanwhile, Dame Slap also spoke on another matter, as noted in the lizard Oz digital headlines ...

The pond read the Dame Slap/Rice EXCLUSIVE so others didn't have to, and as expected and predicted, Dame Slap's sauce, added to the basis serve of Rice, attempted to traduce Taylor Auerbach while quoting brave, honourable coke head Mr Lehrmann, but enough of that stew already.

All the pond can add is a joke ...

Suffice to say, that whatever transpires in the courts, Mr Lehrmann will not have much of a reputation to defame, and in the pond's eyes, Dame Slap never had any reputation, so the invitation for the world to shoot her now seems only fit and proper ...

Down below the fold there were some standard reptile delights ...

Petulant Peta railing at green plans reminded the pond of her puppet, the onion muncher, declaring climate science was crap, so that was a pass - no wait, more than a pass, a bloody big red card - and instead of recycling failures from the onion muncher years,  the pond turned to Killer to start off the day, because there's nothing like a trip to the killing fields ...

In fairness? Killer imagines he can be fair in his bog standard burst of transphobia? Before moving on to dark Brandon's dotage, muh lud, can the pond move that this Graudian story be entered into evidence...

So it was the Ruskis ... but back to Killer, attempting what some might construe as Killer whimsy, or Killer wit, if such could ever be a thing ...

At this point the reptiles thought that throwing in a couple of bunnies would add to the pleasures of the Killer bile ...

Killer was in peak mocking sexuality form ...

At that point, for no apparent reason, except that perhaps the file photo was dirt cheap, the reptiles flung in a snap featuring Oscar ...

And at that point the pond snapped, as the Killer's humour turned grisly and ghastly and yet again the killing fields turned real ...

Yep, Uganda, urged on by American Xian missionaries, maintained British empire standards in relation to gays, as noted in the Graudian ...

Funny that, it was US missionaries who helped turn Uganda, as noted over the years by the pond.

Of course Killer finds the notion of hanging gays immensely funny, and doesn't mind a bit of blak bashing as well ...

With the greatest politeness, fuck him and the homophobic, transphobic, racist horse he rode in on ... but he's with the mob noted in the Graudian, The Republican party has become a full-fledged anti-sex movement ...

But now for an even greater shame ... the bro joining in Killer's worshipping of the killing fields, and not seeing any need to end famine as a weapon of war or put an an end to the genocide ...

Here the pond must thank a correspondent for drawing the pond's attention to a ripper Rowson ...

It's a fair likeness and it also references one of the pond's favourite films, Raoul Walsh's White Heat, with Jimmy Cagney in great Freudian mother fixation sociopath form ...

The pond doesn't know if Benji - not the dog, the sociopath - had mother problems - apparently there were father issues - but he makes a fine genocidal sociopath, and so apparently does the bromancer ...

Actually it's a war crime, one of many - the pond heard a tally that suggested as many as 180 aid workers had already been killed in the genocidal killing fields ... leading to another obvious tally ...

In another place, there was a story making an obvious point ...

Apparently it's incredibly difficult when everything looks like a target ...

Meanwhile, the bromancer was content to urge that the genocide continue as usual, though he was muted and short ... you see, murder's just what war's all about, shit happens, and he'll just do his duty as a turd lover...

Yep, that's the best the bro has got to offer, in his best Xian comforting tone, to the genocide,  and to the collective displacement, the collective punishment, the horrendous use of famine as a tool of war, and the murdering of those who seek to end the famine ...

But hanging gays and conducting genocides leaves a sour taste, so the pond thought it might end on an upper by offering Mein Gott's latest effort ...

The reptiles keep slipping out Mein Gott and the pond has a devil of a time catching his offerings, but this one was top notch ...

Really that headline should have referred to white male Xian jobs, but no matter, the pond is sure that Mein Gott's economic theories will delight the most fastidious of tastes ....

At this point, the reptiles introduced an illustration that was so patently absurd that the pond couldn't help but roar with laughter ... and not because of the face paint, but because of the denim and PJs look ...

It spurred Mein Gott into high gear ...

At this point the reptiles reached for another stock shot from the cheap bin in the stock library remainders aisle ...

That one had an astonishingly fine pedigree, handy on all sorts of occasions ....

There were a squillion more uses, way too long to list here, but at this point the pond should explain why it hasn't bothered addressing what Mein Gott is scribbling ...

The pond looked up Mein Gott's illustrations using Google, and they were wrong, and put it another way, The Fight Against Disinformation Is Getting Harder ...

Did you know that 110% of the pond's readership loves Mein Gott's theories, and so the pond must feed the ravaging horde with a last gobbet ...

And speaking of the US, this one is for Killer and Mein Gott ...

  1. Killer: "It's not clear such days inspire tolerance for LGBTQ individuals, given the excoriating backlash the President's proclamation triggered online, including mockery of trans people." Yair, well an "excoriating backlash" no less. From how many actual people, I wonder. Let's postulate maybe a few thousand - it can't be many more or the web would have been swamped. Now the current population of the USA is (officially) about 341 million. So discounting about 1/3rd as too young, that leaves about 225 million who could have "excoriated". So if we generously consider that maybe as many as 10,000 actually did, then that's roughly 0.4 per cent of the 'adult' population.

    Impressive, yes ?

So onwards: "For now we can laugh at the silliness of governments trying to compel people to celebrate things most people care little to nothing for ..." Oh, like Invasion Day ? Pardon me, I meant 'Australia Day'.

I used to be a little proud of being 'tolerant' until I figured that meant I still had some kind of objection that I had to sort of choose to ignore. So that's when I became actually indifferent: I'm not 'tolerant' of homosexuality, I'm indifferent to it - it raises no emotions in me at all.

Sorry I can't say the same about the reptiles though, they still annoy me to buggary (oops). But then "...the facts of life are conservative, as Margaret Thatcher once said." Sure they are, and that's why the British "Conservatives" will massively lose the next UK election.

    1. Killer’s problem is that having fallen completely down the MAGA rabbit-hole, he sees his fellow devotees as representative of the general population. US late night TV host Stephen Colbert is a a practicing Catholic, yet didn’t seem too concerned about the shared date in a recent monologue; as he suggested, the outraged few are going to be even more upset in 2039, when Easter next falls on April Fool’s Day. Of course Colbert is woke beyond woke, and thus definitely a tool of Satan.

Perhaps MAGAists can instead celebrate Orthodox Easter;, it’s good enough for Vlad, so it should be good enough for Don and his fans. Or perhaps push for a fixed day for the commemoration, abandoning the “first Sunday after the full Moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox” formula; after all, that was established by a bunch of goddamn non-Americans! I’m sure that Killer could get behind that.

    2. Easter on 'All Fool's Day' - yes, I must confess I just hadn't considered that possibility.

But as for Colbert and his "practising" Catholicism, I'm still in (mostly) 'tolerate' mode rather than indifferent.

  2. The Bruising Bro: "To have done this intentionally [WCK killings] would not only be a heinous war crime, it would also be strategically insane." So is the Bro asserting that there are only sane, decent, honest members of Israel's IDF ? That it must be "a tragic accident, mistake or misidentification" ? How about just a plain uncaring, "shoot 'em all" kind of attitude that we see so much of in so many places.

Yes, it is a war crime, amongst many committed by the IDF.

Anyway: "Wong says Israel must change its ways or lose international support.
What does she mean by this
    ?"
She means that Israel must change its ways or lose international support. Not that Israel has much "international support" - other than Biden's USA - anyway.

"... it [very sincere apologies so they say] is the greatest possible contrast to Israel's enemies, who rejoice and celebrate with abandon the sadistic torture and murder of civilians." So there we have it: anything is ok provided you "sincerely" apologise afterwards.

  3. Ah, but Israel did not take this action intentionally. At least that’s what Bibi will say, and any official enquiry will back him up. That’ll be good enough for the Bro; hence nothing to see here, a tragic accident of a just war, thoughts and prayers, etc.

    1. Well yes, there is a difference between intentionally performing a specific action and intentionally setting up the conditions in which particular actions become likely: - which are conditions in which some actions are considered "necessary". I don't think any reasonable person wouldn't see that Israel's IDF has intentionally set up conditions in which a 'kill 'em all' attitude is tolerated, or even promoted.

We might have had our own little bit of that in Afghanistan with Ben Roberts-Smith.

    4. Profound indifference - callous, reckless, banal - from Capt. Catholic's sidekick seems on-brand for a Bro's Response apologia:

"Israeli officials repeatedly blame humanitarian organizations for any gaps in aid delivery, alleging they are incapable of dispatching and distributing more aid, or due to looting in Gaza. But humanitarians described an array of ways in which Israeli authorities impede their work. They offered a list of basic steps Israel has failed to take to facilitate aid delivery: from allowing in sufficient and essential supplies, which they regularly reject; to opening checkpoints earlier, which authorities have repeatedly refused; to respecting basic security guarantees for aid convoys, aid workers and aid offices, which have instead come under recurrent attack."

  5. Our Killer seems to be quite obsessed with the calendar. Might this explain that?

    https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3167499/

but, to save following the link, it provides a convenient abstract with case study -

‘A number of mentally handicapped individuals are able to solve difficult calendar date problems such as specifying the day of the week for a particular date, sometimes over spans of more than 100 years. These individuals are self-taught and do not follow procedures at all similar to the usual, published, algorithms. An investigation of one individual revealed that he retained considerable information about the structure of days in particular months, probably as visual images. His skill closely depended on the extent and form of his knowledge of calendars, and his errors were often a consequence of lack of knowledge about a particular time period. Mentally retarded individuals who perform calendar-date feats are often socially withdrawn and devote considerable periods of time to calendar dates. The most capable calendar-date calculators are usually individuals who have a strong interest in calendars as such.’

    2. GB - To be serious in part - I have had a long interest in some of the characteristics of people who we now categorise as 'somewhere on the spectrum'. Early in my time in biological research I realised that that much of that whole area of science, particularly when it involved taxonomy and classification, had been (is still being) produced by persons well along the spectrum. Which set me looking for a Darwinian explanation for why such characteristics arose and were maintained in our genus. Looking at the surviving hunter/gatherer groups in NT, and reading about other anthropological studies, which found that such groups had to maintain knowledge of several thousand animals and plants to know what they could eat, and, even more significantly, what they could not eat, and it seemed obvious. Those with the heightened capacity to differentiate and recognise, and memorise the differences, were essential to the hunter/gatherer existence, particularly before there were written or even symbolic records.

Calendar savants are a particular category which I could not readily fit into my hypothesis. Then I found that many of them, while able to identify days with dates for years past, had trouble predicting the dates for days into the future. That suggests that they work from memory rather than formulate any kind of algorithm that works into the future, but there is still much that could be investigated in all that.

      Delete
    3. Yes, good point about the hunter-gatherers: working from memory is much easier than trying to do some effective 'slow thinking' all the time. Hence the occurrence of 'photographic memory', I expect - no longer any need for fabulous feats of survival memory, but the gene hasn't completely faded.

      Delete
    4. And now that the penny drops, such feats of memory occur in many species, bees for instance: apparently they do have some kind of inbuilt 'memory' as to what nectars and honeys they can safely gather. And with their 'dance language' bees can even pass this knowledge along and vary it over time.

  6. Hmm: "Why do so many people still think inflation is high? It's because they don't respond to averages. They respond to outliers." That's people in the USA anyway, inflation is a bit more of a mixed bag out here.
    https://jabberwocking.com/grocery-inflation-is-at-1-why-dont-more-people-know-it/

So, people really only take notice of outliers and they only vote for parties and not for policies or people. And a lot of them read Murdoch rages, and even believe them.

Yep, the sooner we institute sortition the better things will be.

    1. Thanks GB. My extended family extends into television production in the UK and USA. I understand from them that much of the success of the game shows set up by Endemol drew on the early work of Kahneman and Tversky, freely adapted by Joop van den Ende and John de Mol, whose names combined for the company name. In its early days Endemol was very profitable - the model for almost all hopeful young TV producers. As the structure went through various takeovers - including Rupert - management of each new owner believed that, of course, they knew much more than den Ende and de Mol, and formats sank into generic TV structure, losing the edge that had come from the counter-intuitive understanding of human nature that Kahneman and Tversky had demonstrated in their deceptively simple student tests. As that happened, many Endemol shows lost audiences, and sponsors.

I did ask if Kahneman and Tversky had received any financial reward for use of their research, but seems they did not. From people's recollections of Kahneman, that probably did not trouble him in the slightest.
