The pond did enjoy the Micallef sketch last night which revolved around this terrifying image … (the pond would have taken a snap of the sketch but as usual, iView is fucked on their ABC).
Never mind, thoughts of the pond's favourite horror show The Others immediately came to mind where the question of who is being haunted by whom was an issue, though nothing could compare to the recent haunting of the reptiles, as noted by Bernard Keane in Crikey a week ago …
Hmm, too much reading of dashing Donners, Bernard? How did that "an" get into the haunting? (A link for those who can get behind the paywall and want more).
And this day the haunting continued. Even the savvy Savva had sighted the ghost and was keen to urge him to stop his clanking of chains and moaning …
Yes, the haunting has had a dire effect …
Even the savvy Savva was keen to see the politics turn presidential …and for it all to turn personal …
Nemesis! And the only way to settle it is to turn it into a backyard brawl behind the toilet block, mano a mano.
Forget policies, let the ghost rattle his chains, this is just a couple of cocks in an epic cock fight ...
Forget policies, let the ghost rattle his chains, this is just a couple of cocks in an epic cock fight ...
If the British quad didn't properly evoke the horror, how about the Australian one sheeter?
As for the logic, the savvy Savva seems to be saying that ScoMo fuckwittedly saved a climate science denialist luddite from extinction, but because Malware had once saved the same dinosaur, he should now shut up about it, and go quietly into the night … but since when have ghosts gone quietly?
Isn't the whole point for those who suffered a little mercury in the ear to turn up on the battlements and demand vengeance? Apparently not ...
Isn't the whole point for those who suffered a little mercury in the ear to turn up on the battlements and demand vengeance? Apparently not ...
The onion muncher breathtakingly hypocritical, and yet Malware is supposed to go quietly into the night? The miserable ghost celebrated by the reptiles is rewarded for his years of white anting, and yet Malware should zip his lips, and not be allowed to revisit Xmas past?
No, never, let the haunting continue, let the lifeless lips speak, let the dark dank dead hand rise from the grave in imitation of Carrie …
Speaking of old Jimbo, as the savvy Savva was, the reptiles also had this double bill …
The good news is that the hand-wringing, sighing, nattering "Ned's" piece is remarkably short - for him … though the pond tends to reach for its Glock whenever anyone urges it to "get real, daddy-o, get hip, get down, get funky" and is swept back to some godforsaken time in the 1950s when Dobie Gillis was a thing, or the fickle finger of fate jutted out from the screen ...
To understand the point, why should taxpayers fund private schools intent on discrimination, fear-mongering, homophobia, persecution and humiliation? Just wondering … perhaps asking for a friend ...
Actually crusading "Ned", it's beyond time for crusading reptiles to face a dose of realism. Craig Kelly notwithstanding, the age of the dinosaurs should be coming to a close …and that nasty wing of right-wing fundamentalists that still haunt the Liberal party need to be put out to pasture, together with the reptiles' current business model … why not keep on with cold case murders and just forget about criminals and creationists intent on knocking off the planet?
Besides, if private schools want to discriminate and preach hate and homophobia, let them do it on their own dime ...
Did someone mention an umbrella?
Well, it's not black, but the pond was keen to spend quality time with another victim feeling haunted, and with nattering "Ned" running short for once, the pond felt it had the time for a little dessert, especially as our Jimbo had been blessed by a Lobbecke, and therefore was guaranteed cult status ...
Actually "fellow travelling with climate denialists" Jimbo, the pond barely had time to know your UK right proclivities or the nonsense you spouted …
… and when it comes to a mano a mano showdown between a Lobbecke and a Rowe, the pond will always go the Rowe ...
And luckily for those tired by spending too much time with a tosser of Jimbo's calibre will be delighted to find more Rowe here …wherein can be found a clue to help in decoding the true meaning of at least one of those furnaces lurking in climate science hell …
But enough of fun, because the pond must trudge on with Jimbo …having a mighty whinge after failing to be preselected to a winnable position on the Senate ticket ...
Oh go cry a river, and talk of the Warringah motion with the onion muncher, and experience breathtaking hypocrisy of a kind which makes your average horror movie look like an enjoyable way to pass the time.
Can we be done now, before you pass into the night, and do your bit playing one of the minor ghosts in the ongoing, never-ending haunting?
The AEC should run Liberal party elections?
Well if anyone wanted a clue why this luddite needed to get sent to pasture, or perhaps to a hotel where a couple of kids haunt the corridors, it's right there, in that profoundly silly suggestion…
Dear sweet long absent lord, why does that image remind the pond of Malware? Is Malware everywhere, haunting everybody and everything?
Does that explain why the geeks are also feeling the haunting at the moment?
Oh here, have an infallible Pope, he'll exorcise the ghosts, he'll stop the haunting, in his own inimitable way, with more Pope here, in what some think is a minor regional paper these days …but then George Orwell once lived in Southwold and Bramley, and he could spot 1984 coming up from an old-fashioned mile or two away...
Isn't "factions" just a euphemism for "tribalistic identity politics". So then, was the Oreo right on the other day when she said that "tribal mentality and identity politics have taken root" in the Liberal Party ?
ReplyDeleteAnd now Jim Molan is in rampant agreement when he spouts "the poisonous influence of factions" ? And isn't Jimmy Molan himself a factional warrior ? Especially when he goes on to exclaim "Their [factions] entire game is about power and influence. What does this say about those who rise to the top of such a system ?"
Now isn't that a serious public condemnation of the most recent riser to the top of such a system, Scott Morrison ?
How very true. Poll and election results confirm that the likes of Molan are part of a tiny minority that can only exercise power through the system he is decrying.
Delete*Sigh* there's been factions in every party since the dawn of politics. Big surprise. Remember the "wets" and the "dries" of the '80s and '90s Liberal party? Economic rationalists vs interventionists.
DeleteThe breakaway DLP of the '50s which effectively kept Labor in the Wilderness for two decades.
Now moderates and conservatives in modern party. But if you think flicking conservatives like Molan is the answer. Think again.
The problem is branch staking but that's nothing new either. Labor has had their troubles, too, particularly in the early 2000s when they held an inquiry and former PM Bob Hawke was calling it out.
It's once again bubbled to the surface for the Libs - and it's hurting them in the polls.
Conservatives, like current Molan, and fmr PM Abbott won 14 seats in 2013 - a healthy majority government, not a "tiny minority" - only to lose those same 14 seats when the great saviour Turnbull knifed the sitting PM, first, in the back. After pursuing the same inane policies that saw him lose party leadership to Abbot originally, he loses more than 35 newspolss and the Longman by-election in Queensland which he claimed was a plebiscite on his leadership...result? If you think Libs are inept as conservatives - they aren't - they are PITIFUL as moderates. Antidote? Stop branch stacking and jettisoning the conservative MPs! Molan represents the most succesful wing of the liberal party.
Molan for PM, you reckon, Anony. Or should we just dispense with the substitutes and go straight for Abbott again ? And this time, for decades - Abbott to become Australia's longest serving PM, even longer than Menzies.
DeleteAs a first time senator Molan couldn't possibly be PM.
DeleteBut you need only look at the history of Liberal Party Prime Ministers; those who tended to the conservative side won government from Labor - convincingly. Abbott won convincingly. Turnbull, a moderate, took government with a one seat majority
Im not saying bring Abbott back but Iam saying moderate policies and leadership are fool's gold.
You are not going to win votes by tending to Labor's policies - there must be more differentiation between the two parties
Now let's see: yep, the ultra-conservative Menzies defeated Chifley, and the ultra-conservative Fraser defeated Whitlam and the ultra-conservative Abbott defeated Gillard/Rudd. And just look at how successful Guy was in Victoria ... but then, he isn't really ultra-conservative is he, just your average LNP grifter.
DeleteBut of course Molan can be PM; he just has to serve out a bit of an apprenticeship in the Senate like John Gorton did, then switch to say Warringah in the Reps and then take the party leadership and win the next election. Easy peasy.
Anyone who can't afford a lazy grand to waste on a Liberal Party gabfest in Sydney is in the wrong party.
ReplyDeleteAs for Old Jimmý's reference to some would claim he is having a whinge after being booted down the ticked, those "some" are dead right.
Jimmy is as far right faction as you can get. Why doesn't the silly old fool just join his retired regimental mates at the Duntroon Bar for Retired Officers and live out his days in a port and whiskey sodden haze, re-fighting all his great battles.
