In which, thanks to a careless comment, the pond is forced on an acid Palin flashback with Dame Slap ...

The pond does faithfully read its comments - there's a matter of spam, wayward links and defamation for starters - but more so for the acid flashes and memory hits ... as with the anonymous reader who recalled Dame Slap and Sarah Palin, and sent the pond haring off down memory lane, and ending up in the rabbit hole in a pool of tears ...

The pond usually only deals with the fresh dung in the Murdochian stables, for fear of repetition, but how better to fill in a wet day in Sydney?

It was noted in the comments section how Dame Slap routinely picked winners, in much the same way that Sarah herself is a sure guide to winners ...

But that was 2016 ...

... and the pond is still in the time machine back in 2008, which doesn't feel too much different from Rod Taylor being amongst the Morlocks (what a Pal turkey that was).

Time has sorted out the nonsense, but sometimes it's worth diving back to see just how silly Dame Slap can sound, and not just about the UN using climate science to establish a world government ...

Does Dame Slap ever revisit her vomit, like a Tamworth cur overdosed on grass, does she ever begin to wonder and to doubt? Does she ever think that her whole-hearted love for Sarah and the Donald might have led to an excess of silliness, even for an exceptionally silly scribbler?

Probably not ...

Over to us? No, over to you Dame Slap ...your reputation is legendary, your ability to pick winners phenomenal ...

And that's enough of Sunday time travel ... with thanks to that careless commenter, with the hope that they realise that acid flashbacks can result in hindsight sightings that are terrifying ...

  1. Well high marks to Dame Slap for being 'stable' at least; Planet Janet hasn't changed much over the years. From Palin to Monckton to Trump is just a very small hop, step and jump in her life.

  2. It is fascinating to go back and see how 'stable' Janet has been. I found this from 2004 in an interview on Counterpoint titled "Conservatism is Cool".

Janet says according to the transcript; "Conservatism is based around individual freedom, individual thought, individual responsibility. They are extremely simple ideas, and I think the left's problem is that it mistakes simple ideas for this notion that somehow, if you're conservative, you lack any vision.

"I called it last week a small 'v' vision, and that goes to the very heart of conservatism and what conservatives see as the great idea of small government in that it allows the individual to pursue their own goals rather than have dictated to them some top down utopian vision that Paul Keating I think very much embraced and tried to impose upon us, and was punished for it.

"Howard came along almost as a radical compared to Keating, and suggested that he would be promoting a bottom-up kind of vision."

A simple, small v vision I guess allows you to always look for a way, any way, to believe in your own superior vision despite all the evidence to the contrary.

  3. Yep, "Conservatism" is the coolest monkey in the jungle.

Except, of course, that Janet isn't a "conservative", she is actually a gormless, feckless self-attributed libertarian. And generally speaking, she's the last among unequals.

Of course anybody out of adolescence knows full well that it's the "conservatives" who developed and enforced 'political correctness' - oh, all the things we weren't allowed to say or do - and who enforced and policed behaviours, beliefs, identities and moralities. Time to quote Stephen Keim again, perhaps:

"Warriors of the right combine an ahistorical consciousness with the claim that the world has always been as they imagine it to be".

And boy, does Janet have an "ahistorical consciousness", and does she ever live in a world that is nothing like what she imagines it to be.
