You've got to love the NY Times, and its talk of "vulgar remarks", and genteel "alarm", but how strange it is to see "shithole" turn up in the WaPo ...
Of course in the tree killer edition, it quaintly became "profanely assails," in a subdued report on yet another failure at the right hand top of the page ...
The lizard of Oz for a nanosecond joined in, with a discreet use of asterisks ...
By this morning, that was only a dream, long gone, off into the digital void, "disappeared", so that other news and commentary of the standard Oz kind could replace it ...
So only WaPo managed to measure up to the requirements of reporting a narcissist racist vulgarian accurately, and then only in the digital edition, and soon enough the racist vulgarian would confirm another trait, that of the pathological liar ... when he denied saying the word any number of witnesses had heard him say, and the context in which he said it, and the usual suspects rushed to explain it was just hearty locker-room talk of the "grab 'em by the shithole" kind ...
Oops, did the pond say pathological?
Perhaps it should have said congenital ...you know, an inherent, innate, natural-born liar ...
You see, at just this moment, who should step up to defend the Donald, and get anxious about shrinks bashing down the door to do a mood check on Polonius?
Soviet tactics? Well it probably still earns a tick from the Godwin's Law mob, though our man Polonius isn't an original and had to borrow his plumage ...
Of course it's beyond ironic that the old Soviet methods should be invoked, right at the time that the Donald himself remains deep in a love-in with Vlad Putin, formerly of the KGB, and not above killing the odd journalist if the situation demands it ...
That's the way it goes these days. Call white black, or perhaps Norwegian white, and talk of Soviet tactics being used against a pawn of the Soviets, and argue the point endlessly, and all that's left is irony ...
But irony falls against Polonius with a dull thud at the best of times, so it's on with the read ...
Poor old Polonius, still back in the days of Wolff, which already feels like years ago, such is the shitty nature of things in the US these days ...
Well the pond isn't sure about the Donald being a clear and present danger to the US, apart from the way he's just given China a dozen free kicks in Africa, but he did manage to offend Panam ...
No, not that Panam, this Panam ...
And the Donald seems to be something of a clear and present danger to that special UK-US relationship ...
Never mind, with a bit of luck, the Yanks will wise up and do it like the Poms and find a way to field a substitute ...
Meanwhile, US discourse has taken on a whole new level ...
The pond of course has always had a healthy vulgarian streak of a Tamworth kind, but then this is a blog, rather than the office of the US president, trying to stem the Chinese hordes from completely dominating Africa, not to mention the rest of the world ...
And now the pond is deep in Donald mode, perhaps we should turn back to Polonius and see what shit for brains is scribbling in his second gobbet, him being so slow to catch up with the changing times ...
Indeed, indeed, what better sources could one ask for than Fox News and David Brooks, or Alan Dershowitz for that matter, and how pleasing that this epic defence of the Donald should come from the shitty Sydney Institute ...
And truth to tell, who would want him to step down? The American image is currently being polished into a shining beacon of a pathological kind, or perhaps of a turdish kind...
Keep on defending him, keep on defending the damage, keep on with the faux shock and the horror, and then with the denial of the shock and the horror - when anyone with half a mind knew what was coming with the Donald's talk of Mexicans as rapists, so very, very long ago - and let's all ride the merry-go-round to hell, and when it comes to the crunch the shitty apologists at the shitty Sydney Institute will be remembered for their words, if not their deeds ...
And so to a few cartoons, bless their cartooning hearts ...
I wonder if The Caine Mutiny is getting a lot of viewing in Washington these days.

DeleteTrump should have taken his lead from Alexander Downer and compassionately referred to them as "busted-arse countries" - much more diplomatic and genteel.
ReplyDeletePolonius - “Dershowitz is what we in Australia would call a social democrat”.
ReplyDeleteIf Dershowitz hadn’t defended Trump’s presidential right to hire and fire, Polonius would label him a leftist. And I really don’t think Australians would call anyone a “social democrat”. Do we?
Polonius is way behind the event-flux. The article he seems to be channeling was in the Washington Post way back in early December last year.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/12/07/alan-dershowitzs-new-reality-tweeted-by-trump-shunned-by-liberal-friends/?utm_term=.bd7df9647dd0
Meanwhile in the like, real world, Trump’s mental state needs serious critique. Come on Polonius please give us your take on Mr Tangerine Man’s latest scatological spray.
"In which Polonius rushes to the defence of the Donald"
ReplyDeleteHe really does have a fabulous repertoire of people he "rushes to the defence of", doesn't he: Menzies, Santamaria, Howard and The Donald as prime examples. I just can't wait to see his impassioned defence of the historical accuracy of Hal Colebatch ... or is he, apart from a few really loonish loons such as Acker Dacker, going to just pretend that 'Australia's Secret War' was never written and published.
I agree GB. Polonius is the very model of a paid-up right wing apologist, but I doubt he will rush to defend The Donald's latest potty-mouthed outburst. And if he does it will be interesting reading - the usual Hendersonian exercise in deliberately warped avoidance of the real issue. Maybe something along the lines of "Trump Swears - Free Speech, PC Brigade Objects - Vicious Leftist Attack on President".
