Given that the bearded oscillating fan was on The Insiders this morning, and given that very shortly Barners will be on television, the pond thought it wise to offer some alternative viewing … especially as the piece was blessed by a Lobbecke, a sure sign that the reptiles took it seriously, and as warranting the imprimatur of the cult master ...
The pond intends to do this one cold. No relieving cartoons, no jokes about soap operas or a recycling of all Barners' mis-steps and mis-deeds, just straight, undiluted oscillating fan ...
It's certainly bemusing. Barners was a dud to begin with, and it seems to have taken a long time for the lizards of Oz to realise that they were backing a dud.
You can only go so many times to the well to draw up a rich comedy bucket of a Pistol and Boo before people realise that this isn't retail politics, so much as a sausage with very little sizzle, or a sheep lost in the back paddock.
Poor old Barners couldn't let go of his one significant policy success, and less than a year ago he was still muttering about copping the pirate with perjury charges …
What a tomato …
And now Pistol and Boo are the winners, and the reptiles are left shedding tears over a traitor who abandoned Tamworth for Armidale. Is there a bigger crime in the known universe?
It's a bleak picture?
Not for the pond. For the pond, it's a happy, even wonderfully joyous picture, almost as good as the Rowe picture that was recycled this morning on Insiders, and which the pond now matches by doing its own recycling, with the hope that Rowe will soon recycle here after his break …
And now as Barners makes his case for privacy tonight, and as Rowe has apologised to Jack Thompson and Cleo, so too must the pond by presenting again the happy original… though it's hard to spot Rowe's stovepipe hat addition in the illustration below ...
