For a moment there, the reptiles were sounding distracted by a Cash offer and the difficulties of digital life in Point Piper …
The Overington smouldered …
… and the onion muncher seized the moment yet again …
But the onion muncher's still high in the pond's esteem …
There was something else in the air.
The pond knew something was up … you see, alongside those digital splashes came talk of a gift, and then more talk of the trip, and the imminent betrayal of dinkum clean Oz coal, oi, oi, oi …

Oh dear, not the precious … not dinkum clean Oz coal, oi, oi, oi …
The pond could sense it coming, and no amount of zingers on Mad as Hell could save Comrade Bill, it was war and Lloydie was there at ten paces to lead the way …
Oh how they piled in …
Lloydie was there again, patiently explaining how the environment could be saved by dinkum clean Oz coal, oi, oi, oi, and alongside him there were others …
And then just to confirm that a new reptile crusade had begun, comrade Bill bitterly offended the feminist principles held so dear by the lizard Oz …
The pond had a deep sense of ennui … once the reptiles go on a jag, there's no stopping them, and google fills up with their endless stories of the sins and crimes of comrade Bill …
What to do?
The pond can take only so much of Lloydie, the environment's best friend.
Perhaps it would be best just to listen to the Oz editorialist, always adept at putting the reptile case for fair dinkum clean Oz coal in short form …

Say what? Bennie Sporton, an exemplary source of unbiassed pride in dinkum clean Oz coal, oi, oi, oi …
What's that? The pond should get out a little more and read about the world from outside the blinkered reptile herpetarium?
What on earth's the good of that?
“This is an anomaly among anomalies ... It is a suggestion that there are further surprises in store as we continue to poke the angry beast that is our climate,” said Michael Mann, director of the Earth System Science Centre at Pennsylvania State University. “The Arctic has always been regarded as a bellwether because of the vicious circle that amplify human-caused warming in that particular region. And it is sending out a clear warning.” (Graudian here)
You see? All that does is produce a sense of worry, and what good does that do to reptiles snug in their herpetarium: 'It's never been this extreme': Arctic warmer than Europe ...
Only the size of Egypt? Now if it had been a dinkum Oz size the pond might have been a tad concerned, but that's just a Chinese hoax-driven report from that notoriously leftist mob at Reuters …
Why, the sooner they get back to channelling dinkum clean Oz coal like the reptiles, oi, oi, oi, the sooner the future will be assured for troubled youngsters ...
Yes youngsters, you too can get oodles of work in a fully automated coal mine … sending heaps of dinkum clean Oz coal out into the world, oi, oi, oi ...
And please, oh please, comrade Bill, amidst this talk of locked-out coalminers, don't forget dinkum clean Oz coal, oi, oi, oi …
And the pond promises not to get distracted by idle talk of revitalising the NBN, or the sort of Cash that's caught Rowe's eye, with more eye-catching Rowe here …
Still no comments ? The "Oz Editorialist" couldn't stir up much interest in either Shortn'n Bill's or Michaela's fans then.
ReplyDeleteThough come to think of it, the very lovely Rowe did remind me of an article about Michaela published yesterday in The Guardian. Written by Katherine Murphy and Paul Karp, the article contained the following paragraph:
ReplyDelete"Cash’s decision to withdraw her comments followed 24 hours of political brawling about the extraordinary inference the jobs and innovation minister made on Wednesday."
Now apart from the usual reservations about single sentence paragraphs, it was the meaning given to 'inference' that was disturbing. 'Inference' actually means "a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning" and I could see neither evidence nor reasoning in what Ms Cash spouted.
Not that I'm averse to the word 'inference' being used to take the place of 'implication' or 'insinuation', I'm just a bit lost as to which word we might in future be able to use for any genuine examples of a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning.
