As a bonus, the pond wanted to round out the day with a sampling of the rabid dog botherer ...
As soon as the pond reads a line "this is not to make excuses for an anti-Muslim backlash", the pond knows it's headed off into the land of the butt, billy goat, butt ...
You know, I deplore the anti-Muslim backlash buuuuttttt ...
And there the butt is, in the billy goat's last line ... the fractious voice of Hanson is all due to the real issues surrounding Islamist extremism, which is passing strange when you consider that the fractious voice of Hanson first arose - thanks to the Liberal party - in the 1990s, when leaders were allegedly and ostensibly unwilling to even discuss the real issues surrounding the Asian invasion of Australia ...
But hey ho, that's the way it goes in the world of bigots, ever willing to substitute some demonic fear figure in their bid to fear monger their way to power ...
It reminded the pond of another recent outing by the dog botherer, celebrating the demise of a source of information and opinion ...
Now you don't have to be a dedicated relativist to know that the notion of opinion-free objectivity is one of the more stupid myths, one that can only be peddled by exceptionally stupid people like the dog botherer ...
That's why the pond values the work of people like the dog botherer. Their bigotry and prejudices are routinely on parade, their opinions are always at the door, and so the pond knows where it stands, and can discount everything they say ...
When they rant about Islam, when they carry on about this or that, the pond knows that opinion-laden subjectivity is all the go.
There's not a remote corner of the lizard Oz where the bias doesn't infiltrate into the rag, in much the same way, apparently, as sexism stalks the corridors of Faux Noise ...
Of course the cleverer reptiles attempt to hide their prejudices and bigotry ... it's necessary to parade through endless paragraphs of tedious Paul "Ned" Kelly prose to arrive at the golden lumps of bigotry and prejudice.

So when the dog botherer boldly talks about the cloistered confines, without mentioning the Surry Hills bunker wherein the reptiles all drink their Jonestown koolaid, the pond can have a good laugh, and put the notion of opinion-free objectivity to bed ...
Did the AFP ever find out which Downer staffer leaked to Bolt? Didn't Kenny do some objective work on his visits to the Green Zone?
ReplyDeleteSeinfeld - just remember. It's not a lie... if you believe it...
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to go to foreign comedians for that, Anony. We have an excellent local exemplar in John Winston Howard: in the "children overboard" affair for one, and the Iraq war for another (and indubitably many, many more than we have time or space to enumerate).
DeleteSo, it seems you can get away with anything just by claiming that you believed it at the time.
However, an idea that I encountered some time ago would dispute that easy self-justification, viz if you don't seriously and diligently fact check something then spruiking it is very much a de facto lie.
Not only get away with it, BG, but have Leigh Sales find it praiseworthy
