In which the pond is faced by tales of denialism, obsession and dreams of the everyday hausfrau ...

The pond would have skipped the latest bout of climate science denialism from Lloydie of the lizard Oz, except for the poignant juxtaposition the digital subs managed to produce …

The pond also left in that plea, "subscribe for lies you can mistrust", but as it's a screen cap, it'll likely only frustrate wretches inclined to click on it …

The story itself is just fodder reheated from the IPA and one Jennifer Marohasy, the IPA's resident climate denialist, active for some time, and reliably to be found in stories in The Graudian, as here

How long has this been going on, these lizard Oz attacks on the BOM? Well Michael Brown reported on it in The Conversation back in August 2017 here

Frankly the pond is disappointed. Clearly there's not enough happening by way of boat arrivals for the reptiles to be forced into routine climate science denialism for the weekend edition …

Meanwhile, speaking of subs at play, the pond was delighted to see the Terror exposed yet again - a good reason for not paying attention to the rag - in the Graudian's Weekly Beast here, while our prattling Polonius also came in for some whimsy …

The pond immediately had to rush off to prattling Polonius to see if the lad's futile ABC obsession would be laid bare yet again this weekend, and sure enough …

The rest of the reptiles might not have been up to the task of a good boat scare, but Polonius surely was, with the usual ABC obsession, and history lesson, on parade …

Here the pond must pause for a moment, just to celebrate Rowe's portrait of the mutton Dutton at the top of the good ship SloMo …

What a jolly crew of boat people - what a dreadful pirate - and there's more rollicking Rowe here

And now back to Polonius, more steamed up than usual, because dammit, pirates, boats, elections and the dreadful ABC, and history lesson time ...

Ah, the ABC … the obsession never goes away …and that tweet copped a few responses ...

Well the tweet's here, but for anyone wanting to see the ad, it can be found here

Oh the twitter people were having hearty fun with the obsessive ...

And so to the last Polonial gobbet, but inter alia, the pond must wonder just what it is about Tim Soutphommasane that gets under the skin of Polonius and the other reptiles?

The pond suspects its something deep and lurking and unmentionable - after all, all Polonius is doing is flicking the switch to fear, while conducting his usual Operation ABC Hate, and what's wrong with that? It's only tricky when it involves someone with a hard to spell name, and we know what that means ...

Fortunately the pond finds it all too easy to mock prattling Polonius … a man so ideologically blinkered that apparently he has no idea he's ideologically blinkered …

And so to a bonus, because too often the pond overlooks tasty treats for feminists …

Yes, the complimentary one has an important message for the likes of Jacinda Ardern, Theresa May, Angela Merkel, all those young freshers in Congress and, no doubt Margaret Thatcher, if she was still around ...

… give it up, it's all too hard, stay at home and act like a proper, decent Catholic hausfrau ...

Indeed, indeed, the pond has particularly noted Theresa May's abject tendency towards feminism … but stay, this is just our angelic one's notion of doing stout duty for the coalition, berating women inclined to be independent, while thanking the stout-hearted men of the Liberal party for shouldering the burden of leadership, leaving women to follow their dreaming duties as everyday hausfraus ...

Oh yes, there's nothing like the angelic one speaking for the entirety of Australian women … while explaining that only lost women who can't score a hubbie and kids and a decent family life would waste their talents on politics …

No, stray feminist reader, this isn't a parody. This was published in the lizard Oz, alongside climate denialism and Polonius's prattle about the ABC, but as with all marvellous things, it must come to an end … as the angelic one explains how it's all too hard for her, and therefore must be too hard for women in general … and how the domestic life of a dreamy hausfrau is right and proper for all women ...

The pond's bet is that any woman reading this blather will resolve to do anything to avoid becoming anything remotely resembling the angelic one …especially as, much like Polonius, it involves someone inclined to indulge in ideological posturing while seemingly unable to understand that her blather is full of ideological posturing...

Besides, who wouldn't want to go into the entertainment business? Surely it must appeal to men and women alike? Trust the infallible Pope to put the best spin on the game, with more papal spinning here ...

  1. AnShan, proud mother of a cricket team of kids, writes about the big issues, like the fact that mothers don't care about the big issues. Did I do that right? Maybe she should leave this sort of deep stuff to the boys, and concentrate on the food and fashion section....I guess it shows my sexism that I would find this merely repugnant from men, but just plain weird from a woman.

Anyway, who are these people who labour under the mistaken notion that women all have to think the same? I suspect it's just the voices in AnShan's head. If that was true, where are Julie Bishop and Michaelia Cash, or even fellow-crossbencher Cathy McGowan in that group hug?

Outstandingly the most interesting tension playing out in US politics at the moment is not the orange-haired freak bloviating about caravans, or horse-trading about fences and functioning government, but the very public (and mildly hopeful) spat playing out in the Democrat party between the new, young(ish) cadre of women like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar on the one hand and the old hands like Nancy Pelosi on the other. I say hopeful, because I'm perfectly happy to see how Bismarck's sausage (sorry!) is made - politics should be done in the light. Whether or not the Green New Deal becomes a thing, and how that does or doesn't happen, is an epochal thing. Respect on both sides, but my money is on the young 'uns - between slaying lewks, winning Twitter and pwning American reptiles, they are making everyone scramble to keep up with their long-overdue fresh energy. At least there, there is none of the monotone AnShan would expect.

Pope had so much fun with Malware, I thought his quality might drop a little with the human white-noise generator that is ScoMo. But he just keeps getting better and better...

    1. Hi Frank there are women who don't like women; my mother is one. It's difficult to understand where her ideas came from but it is clear to me that there are a quite a few women like my mother who believe that they are somewhat 'like men' and 'understand men' and so they deserve to mix it with men and do well but other women should keep out of the way and do what they are told.

It's sad and she's a sad old women over 90 this year and she doesn't like old people either so she's in a bad way and there is nothing anyone can do. She gets sent to psychs by her doctors but they are usually stupid women who know nothing.

    2. Ah, Anony, it isn't all that many years since it was all about "Women are the enemy, and men are the prize !" And with quite a few of the hidden vulva brigade that still holds in full force.

As for you, FD, many thanks, now there's nothing I need to say - at least about AnShan, still cogitating about The Arras. But one thing I can say, is to remind us - though AnShan would be selectively blind about this, is Dame Enid Lyons who, having been elected (to replace a dead hubby) in 1943 was actually, as well as being the first woman elected to the Fed House of Reps, the first woman appointed to cabinet. And that was after her cricket team (12 born, one died young plus 3 miscarriages) was in full flower.

But what happened ? Well, of course they wouldn't do anything to give her any sense of importance like appoint her to even a very junior ministry. What they wanted her for, as she said herself was: "her colleagues “only wanted me to pour the tea”."
