In which the pond spends some quality time with the reptiles before scuttling off to prep the bug out ...

Luckily the pond spent yesterday tucked away in a bunker underground, hearing and seeing nothing of the outside world, and will spend today the same way ...

Got to prep, got to get the bug out ready for the new world order.

But at least one thing's clear. Fox News won; the Fox News candidate is the winner.

On the upside, David Rowe was on fire with reassuring images that cast oil on turbulent water...

The pond's most favourite movie - and a huge flurry of great Rowe cartooning here - which is why, returning from the underground bunker war room yesterday, the pond didn't watch the coverage, but instead caught up on the second season of UnReal.

Well if reality television is the new world leader, better get with the agenda ...

And now there's real work for the mutton Dutton to do. The last thing this country needs is intelligent, able, capable, rich Americans fleeing to our shores. Build the wall, build the wall. Let them go to Canada or New Zealand ...

As usual, the pond turned to the reptiles to explain the matter, and the reptiles of Oz were all over it ...

Well yes, but it was always on the cards, and it was more than mere luck in the timing that saw the pond toddled off to the bunker to avoid contemplating the debacle.

Did he stun Fox News' reviewers, or Chairman Rupert, who called for unity behind the Donald?

Now the Republicans will actually have to govern and take responsibility for their actions. Now there'll be a novelty ... and possibly, if they deny women's rights, and keep on attacking Hispanics and blacks, with the odd riot attached ...

Meanwhile, on the alternative universe of reptile land, there were plenty of rich pickings ...

Dear sweet absent lord, where to start.

Left-wing populism with a twist?

Naturally, this being a panel of blind experts pronouncing on the shape of the camel, this was directly opposed by the Bolter ...

Yes, it was left-wing populism, which at the very same time was a revolt over Left arrogance.

Only in Murdochian la la land ...

Naturally the Devine also chipped in to explain that it wasn't the bullies of the Left, it was the Establishment ...

Yes, it's now official. Chairman Rupert, the entirety of News Corp, and the Republican Party, under whose name the Donald ran, are outsiders sticking it to the Establishment ...

How long the Republican Party can purport to be outsiders sticking it to the Establishment is going to be one of the greater novelties of modern politics.

With this embarrassment of riches, the pond had only one alternative. It had to be the bromancer ...

Quick, before stepping into the fray, have a whiff of a reassuring David Rowe cartoon ...

Another great movie, and just right for evoking the bromancer's mind set ...

Well there's a lot of fine blather about nothing - as if nobody had noticed how, in the days of the cell phone, pollsters are less reliable, and how in the United States polling has turned to the incredibly superficial and the meaningless, with a sample of a thousand standing in for more than 300 million in a very diverse nation.

The reference to cricket was surely designed to send the pond nodding off to sleep - but now it seems we are getting into the deep end of the pool, and the bromancer is just the sort of diver we need ... one who can explain how the United States has taken a radical turn to the left ...

Indeed, indeed. One has to have only a cursory knowledge of United States history to be aware that it was the classic position of Woodrow Wilson not to have anything to do with the new League of Nations ...

It certainly wasn't part of his fourteen points, and it certainly wasn't something he supported ... that's why right wingers and Republicans revere his name.

In calling for the formation of a "general association of nations," Wilson voiced the wartime opinions of many diplomats and intellectuals on both sides of the Atlantic who believed there was a need for a new type of standing international organization dedicated to fostering international cooperation, providing security for its members, and ensuring a lasting peace. (here with a cartoon).

Oops, sorry about that, but as for that well known, even notorious, right winger, FDR, his stalwart refusal to get the United States into the second world war explains why Hitler's hegemony ruled Europe for so many years after their successful truce with the classic Leftist isolationist ...

As for that classic isolationist leftist George W. Bush's refusal to participate in the war in Iraq - and his isolationist leftist father's refusal to bail out Kuwait - orators have produced panegyrics, poets many sonnets, in honour of their isolationist leftist tendencies ...

Yes, when writing of the barking mad, it's always handy to have the barking mad as a guide, and so to a final gobbet from the salivating bromancer ...

And there, in that second paragraph, is a classic example of how profoundly stupid the reptiles are, and how in love with climate denialism they are.

One of the points of Obama's time in power was the way he used regulation to take steps on climate science, no matter the profound climate denialism of many in the Republican party and in News Corp, and the obstructions offered by congress and the Senate. Now any sensible response to climate science is doomed.

With a full blown climate denialist is in power, he's likely to fuck not just the United States, but the planet as well ...

Time for a reassuring David Rowe cartoon?

And now, since the pond is off to the bunker today, there's just time for a moment with Savva ...

We go high? So that's what banning citizens of another country for life means? It's going high? All that head kicking of refugees is going high?

And so to the bizarre notion that nobody won the US election ...

Well the pond thinks it knows what Savva means when it says that nobody won the US election, but in reality, the Republicans won the election, with their chosen candidate the Donald at the helm.

May the long absent lord help us all, but how on earth is the immortal line "Nobody won this election"  a way of coping with that reality?

Does it derive from the notion that with Malware in charge, nobody is running this country?

"We have never seen anything like it."

Oh come on, let's not demean Italy or Germany in their glory days ...

And as for that snide reference to "no names, no pack drill", who on earth is she talking about?

Who on earth is an actual Bernie Sanders down under?

Time for another Rowe cartoon?

Ah there he is, Bernie Sanders in the womb ... and so to a final gobbet of Savva ...

And in the disunited states of a divided America? It seems no American political leader can get through a campaign without conforming to the requirements of Fox News and the Murdochian press ...

And with that thought, the pond is off to the bunker again, and all that's left behind is a Pope cartoon, and more infallible Pope here ...

Now to emerge from the bunker and watch the world burn. It should be quite a show ...

  2. Just had a glance at some of the column headings in News Corp publications.

Unsurprisingly the 'commentators' are loading their canons with their own pet obsessions: refugees, evil lefties, elites etc etc. Drone, drone.

To read one of their columns is like staring into a fun parlour distorting mirror.

These are the people who have shrilled for years that it is 'All About The Economy, Stupid'. In large part it is. Enough people voted for Trump because they had been tossed on the scrap heap. But they were the cherry on the top of the Repblican base who ignored the Orange Man's perculiar ways because they preferred a Repblican to A Democrat. And indeed they probably believe a non-tax paying, New York, property developer and casino owner who likes flashy women was only playing to the huddled masses anyway.

Already people, including Turnbull, are making soothing comments about Trump's We-Are-All-In-it-Together victory speech.

What ARE we in? That is the question. Something nasty which sticks equally well to suede loafers or hob-nailed boots, I posit.

    I am not resting easily.

    2. Talking about nasty, sticky things, Miss pp, I predict Turnbull's 'imminent refugee resettlement program' will collapse. I think it was contingent on Clinton being elected Prez, and rested on US acquiescence to help out 'a friend in need'.

Unless he can convince that Lame Duck Obama to do something about it.

  3. What a difference a day makes.

Everyone loves a winner don't they? Or maybe they are just frightened of him. Winners are mostly male, as we know.

World leaders are cooing at Donald. Our own 'leader' has compared himself with Trump and has rejoiced in a 'very warm' conversation. They are both businessmen. They will get on well said Malcolm.

All these people in the media and politics who are hailing Trump seem oblivious that his professed abhorrence for free trade and military alliances is a complete antithesis of their own core beliefs. It
is all very bewildering. The downtrodden who are appalled by 'elites' and 'insiders' have fallen in love with a man who embodies everything they claim to despise. Some devout Christians have seen Trump as the very hand of God. They have ignored his colorful personal life and vulgar attitudes to women because the president elect claims to share their conservative personal views and believe he will deliver them the political outcomes they desire.

And once again the 'experts' are underestimating Trump.

He won't be as bad. He might be very good. Congress will control him.

All I know is that Trump has hijacked a weak Republican Party and has danced to his own tune and will soon be the leader of the free world. That is an amazing achievement . Who is going to curb him?

And now Turnbull is comparing himself with him. I wonder if he will start dying himself orange instead of just wearing a pale mango tie. That would be something wouldn't it? Imagine An Irridescent Turnbull with a Valencia glow and a lemon rinse.

Hmm, now where have I heard that before ? Something about starting a 1000 year Reich, wasn't it ?

But I have to say, Miss pp, that Donald has been trumping the idea that the vote is rigged, hasn't he ? But he won, so the vote must have been rigged in his favour, musn't it ? So when will be be impeached ?

However, what really amused me was all the reptiles and gurus doing their Trumanalysis: and each and every one finds that Trump's win just preciseky proves their own pet love/hate/wich list. For some it's the "silent majority rises ... at long last", for others it's "a kick in the rounf thing for the 'leets', for yet others it's "striking back against the dictatorship of the media and the Left. So it goes.

But the simplest and, to my simple mind the best, analysis came fro Kevin Drum (my favourite cat and cancer man). He looked at the vote counts and announced two obvious findings:
      1. Trump actually, in votes, did a bit worse than Romney in 2012 (down about 1% or so). But,
      2. Clinton did a lot worse than Obama in 2012 (about 4% worse in average over all voter categories).

So, it comes down to this, the somewhat colourless and uninspiring (no audacity of hope there) Clinton just couldn't get enough of the pro-Democrat vote out. C'est la vie (or 'say lavvy' as we unmoved ones have it).

    2. How about ending the Clinton Reich?

Yep GB, there's some as see that it's not all bad, some more so than others.

Can Trump do a G H Bush? Can he go back to before the Clintons put the fix in on Yeltsin and went for the money... and then guns. The rest, as they say, is history... maybe nearing the end.

It seems German top pollies today are the only ones to have been straight and spoken truth to Trump. One reason for that is: NATO, Germany and “The Dirty War on Syria”

  5. What a sickening display by the government in Question Time today.

The grovelling remarks about Trump by Turnbull and Bishop were nauseating.

Shorten sounded prime ministerial when he made calibrated remarks about Trump and the American alliance.

Turnbull 'I am just like Trump' and crew must be shaking in their boots because their clunky game plan, supported by News Corp, is to paint the ALP as anti-American and anti-worker. God it was a puerile performance. No wonder politicians are despised.

  6. In my opinion Amerika has now become a one party very authoritarian state.
They will have control of all branches of the federal government, many/most state governments and many/most local governments too, including police forces. This will be especially the case when Trump and Co get to stack the Supreme Court with right-wing ideological hacks.
To make things worse all of the in power movers and shakers are essentially self-righteous zealots (especially the right-wing religionists) who have no taste for any kind of compromise or negotiation, and essentially treat any kind of opposition with contempt.

But, even worse, there is now no effective opposition and they do not have to negotiate anything because they have the necessary numbers to pass any legislation that they so desire, and thus remake Amerika in their own benighted image.
