Warping the lightspeed hyperdrive Captain!

Yes, the hagiographers are certainly having a hard time of it at the lizard Oz.

Can the spectacle of the bouffant one at work knob-polishing get any more bizarre? These days, he's reporting on defiant hope and dogged determination?

We're already in "I have a dream mode" and must "dream on baby, dream on?"

Oh it's desperate, pitiful times, and the pond can only suggest that the bouffant one put on his best tie and suit, and head off to a mock funeral, where the defiant hope and the dogged determination can be laid to rest, because the alternative is a lifetime spreading bullshit on the back garden ...

No, the pond hasn't linked to the bouffant one, but then lately the pond has got queasy about linking to drivel.

It's the fear of the class action legal suit, as people blame the pond for the reduction in IQs around the land, a little like ANZ discovering that shameless ripping off of its clients will eventually make its way into the public domain ...

Never mind, the real reason we headed off to the lizard Oz this morning is to celebrate:

Yes, it's official. Prattling Polonius is now a lizard ..

Oh sure, they couldn't dig up a photo of him, so officially, he's just an inverted comma, and he's only four of six on the rotating fickle digital splash of doom, and now, truth to tell, he's just one baying loon in a whole chorus of baying loons, and his brand, his product differentiation, has gone for good ...

I mean, Hendo writing about the ABC for the reptiles at lizard Oz? What's new or exciting about that?
Every day there's some loon in the Murdoch empire scribbling about how awful and how evil the ABC is ...

What's that you say? Breaking news, this just in?

Why it's a picture of Hendo, and he appears to be smirking. So long in the wilderness and now safely in the hive mind ...

Compare the way he looked when he was at Fairfax. Why he looked like a sour old prune who'd just bitten into a lemon:

Well enough of that neo-realist nonsense.

You have to look your very best to be a lizard amongst lizards, while joining the herd in writing yet another bout of abuse of the ABC.

Meanwhile, on another planet, very far away:

Yes, it's hate, fear, loath, and hold Malcolm Turnbull in contempt week at the pond.

If you like, you can always head off to big Mal's Facebook page and share the love, here.

Oh okay, it's not exactly love, is it? Click to enlarge if you want the details of the hate, fear, loathing and contempt:

Oh we could go on about big Mal for hours, and being a loon site about loons doing loonish things, no doubt the pond will.

For the moment, of course, it's just social media, and social media rage is a dime a dozen, and it'll take the mainstream media awhile to catch up - you know, the reptiles at lizard Oz are much happier berating the ABC every day than wanting to think about the digital future, or in this case, a dud digital future.

But that reminds the pond, let's not forget to give a big hand to everyone in Murdoch la la land, who contributed to this enormous effort and this historic milestone, which is to say the destruction of the concept of a meaningful and useful NBN.

Where you give them a big hand, where you stick your fingers, is of course, left to your discretion. The pond has absolutely no suggestions ...

Well played lizards.

Now why don't you re-purpose this Moir cartoon (more Moir here) and apply it to the NBN:

Meanwhile, as a sorbet to wash down the rest of the day, the pond offers up Greg Sheridan, scribbling furiously Kevin Rudd made right call on tapping Indonesian first lady's phone (behind the paywall to keep it safe from prying Indonesian eyes).

Now the pond never discusses security and intelligence matters, right, and the pond deplores the leftist wretches at the Graudian and their lickspittle fellow travellers, who reveal matters in relation to security and intelligence, right, no, not left, right, and all those whistleblowers, who aren't really blowing whistles, they're treacherous, traitorous, treasonous scum, right, and anyone who publishes anything on security matters is just like them, pure unsanctified  evil of the lowest, most deviant, perverted kind, right?

The decision in 2009 to tap the phone of the wife of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was endorsed by relevant Australian cabinet ministers and fully reported to the then prime minister Kevin Rudd.
Any criticism of the relevant intelligence agencies, especially the Defence Signals Directorate, for making that decision ought more properly be directed at the Rudd government.
However, as The Weekend Australian reveals today, both the Rudd government and intelligence agencies had reasonable grounds to take a very serious interest in the political activities of Kristiani Herawati, the wife of Yudhoyono.

Say what?

Oh of course, the pond forgot George Orwell's splendid rule:

All leaks are equal, but some leaks are more equal than others.

No doubt the lizard folk at the Oz are going to reveal some astonishing insights, some profound revelations:

The Weekend Australian's revelations today demonstrate that in 2009 the Australian intelligence agencies were behaving prudently, under the guidance of the Australian government of the day, which itself was behaving prudently.
Contrary to the dominant interpretation of centre-left commentators in this country, Australians have every reason to trust the integrity and competence of their national security agencies, and the prudence in these matters of their government.
It is in the public interest for Australians to know this.

That's it?

Dear Prudence .. behaving prudently?

Now if that isn't the purest distilled essence of comedy gold ...

It is in the public interest for Australians to know that they don't need to know anything, because everything is ship shape and in the best of hands and trust us and just go back to sleep, for god's sake, and don't disturb us with any loud snoring, sheeple ... and remember, no animal shall sleep in a bed ... with sheets.

You have to hand it to Greg "Abbott was my best friend … We talked over everything. The meaning of life, the purpose of politics, who’d win the rugby league grand final, what girls we planned to ask out, petty squabbles we might have had with our parents" Sheridan. (more Bromance talk here)

He's currently by far the best hagiographer and knob polisher and tosspot we've got in the land.

He puts the lick and the spittle into lickspittle, and he does it with an eloquent mastery of forelock tugging that leaves the pond gasping in astonishment ...

Each column is now a guaranteed rub and tug and with a guaranteed happy ending, and if you don't know what that means, clearly you don't read the advertising in the City Hub, which is currently down there with Sheridan ...

Of course if the Indonesians get to hear about it, it might just set back diplomatic relations another month or two, but what the heck, you have to pay a price for purest distilled essence of comedy gold ....

And now back to David Pope, and always remember there is more essential Popery here, as the pond continues to celebrate its contempt, fear and loathing for Malcolm Turnbull ...

Oh if only it was a funny cartoon, instead of being yet another brutalist bout of truth-telling from that master of neo-realism ...

Dorothy do we have another case of security information being leaked to a Murdoch snout by the liberal party as happened when Downer leaked to Bolt.
This is how the conservatives play the game when it suits them they have the security agencies in their pocket and the Federal police acting like poodles and dance to the tune of Brandis.
We now have Abbott setting up a royal commission into what was a OH&S issue for the states but wants to incriminate Rudd for purely political reasons.
I now do not have sympathy for Rudd because he should have had a royal commission into Howard's decision to invade Iraq illegally. And leaving Downer unscathed over the weapons for wheat debacle.

  2. It's no wonder Brigadier Greg is making up with Mother Ani. She, and SBY, are busily socialising with Shinzo & Akie Abe. Akie was "educated at Sacred Heart School in Tokyo, a Roman Catholic High & Middle School, then graduated from Sacred Heart Professional Training College". Would have thought the Abbotts have the Abe family on their Xmas card list by now, but the natural synergies between Japan & Indonesia won't be doing much for Oz.

  3. Cameron Stewart (is he a new one?) says "AUSTRALIAN intelligence agencies targeted the mobile phone of Indonesia’s first lady in 2009 because she had become the single most influential adviser to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and was thought to be hatching a presidential succession plan for her eldest son. "

Shocking! I'm sure the Indonesians would have been justified in targetting a few Australian pollies phones for simiar reasons.

  4. Can anyone make sense of Bolt's latest argument on marriage equality? (No that's not compulsory or your head may explode.)

He gets stuck into Turnbull for criticising the "slippery slope" argument, then quotes the High Court judgement which seems to espouse the same.

So the High Court in their wisdom and legal experience recognise that there is a history of accepting lawful polygamy.

"Second, statements made in cases like Hyde v Hyde, suggesting that a potentially polygamous marriage could never be recognised in English law, were later qualified by both judge-made law and statute to the point where in both England and Australia the law now recognises polygamous marriages for many purposes."

"It is not now possible (if it ever was) to confine attention to jurisdictions whose law of marriage provides only for unions between a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life. Marriage law is and must be recognised now to be more complex."

So who is Bolt complaining about? The judges, or Turnbull?

Hyde vs Hyde incidentally dates from 1866. (An ex- Mormon changed his mind and wanted a divorce from wife 2 on the grounds of adultery.) The judges stated "The fact that polygamy is permitted by the law of the country where the marriage was contracted does not render it invalid, or there can be no such thing as a valid marriage in polygamous countries. A marriage between two persons competent to contract marriage, and valid by the law of the place where it was contracted, is valid in every country in the world."

So we've recognised polygamy in common law for 150 years or so. And Bolt thinks this knocks Turnbull for 6?

It's a pretty long slippery slope.

  5. From Tony Abbott’s - Address to the party room, Parliament House, Canberra, 28 June 2013.

"It's a very strong team ... but there is one person I particularly want to mention.

"We have a strong and credible broadband policy because the man who has devised it, the man who will implement it virtually invented the internet in this country."

What say ye now, primo ministro Abbott, about Malcolm Internet Inventor Turnbull?
