The reptiles are winding down into the silly season - though to be fair, every month is silly season at the lizard Oz - and this weekend will see the last of the pond for the year, and meanwhile, already there are some notable figures that have gone AWOL ...
Yes, it's been a good two weeks since the pond has felt the need to red card petulant Peta, limping into summer somewhere else than the lizard Oz and now officially AWOL from the far right perch in the digital edition ...
And in her place? News of bloody lobsters ...
Passing by the ABC story - always a willing victim of the potent Jewish lobby - the reptiles led off with energy stories and the pond was astonished to see a little note, an actual attempt at reporting below the main fear and loathing thrust of the digital edition ...
You might expect at least one of those hot links would have led to the report ... but they were, in the usual reptile bubble/hive mind way, links to reptile inhouse stories, like that old one by cackling Claire ...
Shocking, now with new, improved costings, and still giving SMRs a hard time ...?
Well, it'll give the reptiles endless fodder for the silly season ...
Meanwhile, the pond is growing increasingly irritated by the silly mining ads now infesting YouTube ...
While in the search for light relief, here's another ...
What else was missing from the top of the reptile digital edition?
Well both WaPo and the NY Times had that story involving the mango Mussolini at the top of their digital pages ...
The pond isn't worried, the deeply corrupt SCOTUS will take care of business ...
Good old Clarence, but you'd think the reptiles might at least have noticed the fuss ...
The pond is sure it's going to be a good Xmas and new year, thanks to Faux Noise and the Chairman Emeritus ...
Sad to say, other grand and amusing stories also went missing from the lizard Oz ... here's just a couple of teaser trailers ...
Not much ... the lizard Oz editorialist still obsessed with the Lehrmann matter, nothing new to see there.
The pond could have done this by indulging in one of its infamous cut and pastes but decided to play fair ...
First a heretic Prof, who for some bizarre reason, turned up near the top of the digital edition...
The old Singapore routine? Luckily good old Shoe was standing by to put the quisling, lick-spittle fellow travelling Prof in his place.
Good old Shoe might not be the bromancer in peak fury, but there's never been a war the reptiles haven't loved, and good old Shoe was on hand to do the AWOL bro's work ...
Yippee, maybe not this Xmas, but we must be ready for a war with China by next Xmas. There's never been a war the reptiles haven't loved and wanted to be part of ...
Meanwhile, there was another item already forgotten by the reptiles, and barely noted in passing when it went down ... but for a reminder, you'll need the infallible Pope ...
And while in the Xmas spirit here's another ...
Not to distract from the message, but the pond hasn't thought of Ron Cobb since he directed a terrible 1992 comedy Garbo, unseen by all ...but in the spirt of the season, here's the reference...
Huh; what could a former head of the Army - a bloke with only a few decades of professional military experience - possibly know about defence issues, in comparison with the knowledge, wisdom and foresight of the Bro? Why, I’ll bet that this Leahy fellow probably never even had anything to do with the National Civic Council!
ReplyDeleteI never knew this: "In 1972, Cobb moved to Sydney, Australia, where his work appeared in alternative magazines such as The Digger. Independent publishers Wild & Woolley published a "best of" collection of the earlier cartoon books, The Cobb Book in 1975. A follow-up volume, Cobb Again, appeared in 1978."

Could anybody forget this classic:

GB - pleased to see that Cobb is remembered, particularly by our better cartoonists. The classic you have put up (thank you) remains worryingly appropriate in this age of 'Fox' and 'Sky'.
DeletePleasure, Chad. That Cobb classic has been lodged in my brain ever since I first saw it round-about 50 years ago.
DeleteYes, GB, he went native, as they used to say in Kipling's day, which is how he got to direct an Australian feature film, but he was always a much better cartoonist than a one time feature film director
DeleteCobb also did quite a bit of notable film production art, though, including the original “Alien”.
DeleteAw - should we give a tad of recognition to the patriotic commitment of the Woman from Wycheproof? A week or so back, she told the couple of hundred folk who tune in to 'Sky' that she really, really, needed a break, a rest, if you will, from the strain of having have the hair arranged, and front up on 'Sky', to read each day's talking points from Liberal HQ. Oh, and to repeat them to 'guests' dredged up from the Rest Home for Nonentities, so they could respond with the expected 'That's exactly right, Peta' - which is all any of them ask of their interviewees.
ReplyDeleteBut such is the national need that she is prepared to risk her nails to put her name to talking points from Liberal HQ that appear in print. What dedication.
By golly, you're terribly generous and kind Chadders. Shouldn't the reptiles keep to the Salem routine of giving wyches a dose of the water treatment?
DeleteDorothy - I have never quite worked out what 'Wycheproof' signifies, in treatment of Wyches. The area has that strange claim to something like the lowest mountain in our land of Girtby (some say in the world), so visitors could be subject to all manner of hallucinatory experiences. And that is visitors - we know little of those conceived and born there, beyond the talents of some to run around with sacks of potatoes on their shoulders.
DeleteWhat's the bet that Polonius' column on Saturday will deal with Antoinette Lattouf ?
ReplyDeleteHmmm: "Journalist, who is the founder of Media Diversity Australia, says she believes she was terminated unlawfully"

There's no 'conservatives' on the ABC, is there.
And there, just yesterday, was the Bro’ quoting Leahy as an authority: “As former army chief Peter Leahy recently argued, we are now substantially weaker in defence than we were when Labor was elected,…” while arguing for a deployment to the Red Sea and what does Leahy do in return – says the opposite.
ReplyDeleteNevetheless, the Bro’ would be happy with Leahy continuing his line, during what the media report is a cost of living crisis, that not enough is being spent on defence. Perhaps the current federal government is making sure money is well spent after the Anchoram Report:
‘The Commonwealth, which has allowed itself to be placed in a "weak and indefensible" contractual position, "may have paid for goods and services not received to the required standard, potentially breaching the Commonwealth Procurement Rules".’
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-20/defence-data-contract-kmpg-weak-indefensible-review-finds/103247476
And was the ALP in charge of this waste of taxpayer money?
‘In April 2022, on the eve of the last federal election, the then assistant minister for defence, Andrew Hastie, announced KPMG's contract, promising it would "deliver secure and resilient information systems" to "ensure we can exploit the data generated by our military drones, aircraft, land vehicles and maritime vessels".’
And what does Hastie say as way of explanation?
‘A spokeswoman for Mr Hastie said: "Unfortunately, on this occasion, Mr Hastie is unable to provide comment."’
(from the same link above)
Leahy about us and US: "If rejecting a request such as this [naval vessel for Red Sea] threatens our relationship, then it's not a real partnership." Of course it's not a "real partnership", the USA is simply our de facto suzerain.
ReplyDeleteBut anyway, it's now becoming increasingly clear that just this once the Bromancer got it right: our naval vessels are totally vulnerable to cheap Iranian drones as mounted by the Houthis - or by anybody else for that matter.
But who hasn't got effective drones these days - oh yes, that's right, we haven't:

Simon Foster: Right, can I go to bed now, please?

In the Loop (film)
2009 film by Armando Iannucci
"In the Loop is a 2009 British satirical black comedy film directed by Armando Iannucci. It is a spin-off from Iannucci's BBC Television series The Thick of It (2005–12), and satirises Anglo-American politics, in particular the invasion of Iraq. "

"You stay detached, otherwise that's what I'll do to your retinas" - and when Malcom Tucker makes a threat of that quality, you take him damn seriously. I know I would!
