In which the Oreo returns and the pond will accept no substitutes ...

The pond is finding it very hard to cope with all the breaking news in reptile la la land, but it would be remiss not to note the way the gutless wonder from the deep north was forced to break cover ... in a way that splashed egg all over the Bolter's indignant face ...

Some things are too good not to note ... it's a measure of the Bolter's deep and abiding hatred of Malware that he would fall hook, line and sinker for a piker of the George kind ...

Meanwhile, joyous news ... the war on the ABC continues, and the reptiles have produced two of their heaviest hitters to take their place in the front line ...

Talk about Sophie's Choice for the pond as a way to begin the week.

The pond's two very favourite experts - Moorice is one of the world's greatest climate scientists, don't ya know - on the very same day ... so many blessings ...

But Monday has always been Oreo day. Call the pond shameless in its traditionalism, and deeply conservative, but the pond will accept no substitutes ...

Fie, away wit ye, ye and ye cheap substitutes, pathetic imitations when only real loonery is required and accepted ...

Morons?

Ah, that's our Jennifer, always elevating the debate, always lifting the tone ...

Of course only a moron would think that JJJ has always broadcast its Hottest 100 on invasion day. At one point, it was just about the music ...

That story at Gizmodo finished with this plaintive note ...

Note: Racist stereotypes and uneducated derogatory comments about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are against our community guidelines. If you post comments containing them, they will be deleted. If you do it again, or contact me to complain about it, you will be banned. And just a reminder - Australia Does Not Have Freedom Of Speech. This is a story about a radio station moving a countdown to a more inclusive day. Not an excuse to drag up your thinly veiled racism. I shouldn't have to read the kind of filth that has been directed towards my family and community - in my workplace, of all places. Be kind, people. It costs nothing. - Rae

Not an excuse to drag up thinly veiled racism?

What a spoilsport. It's on with the thinly veiled racism and white nationalist western Judeo-Christian triumphalism. Like, not just the radio, but what Mussolini gave to those bloody Ethiopians, and where was the gratitude?

Oh and forget your two world wars and the Holocaust and the wonderful treatment dished out to countries during the glorious days of empire and colonialism, too numerous to list but no doubt grateful citizens of the Belgian Congo and the India/Pakistan partition could kick off proceedings ...

But that's our Oreo. Speaking of the Scots, they were so dumb that the English frequently used them as spearheads, both in the military and in administration (och lads, anyone for a wee dram of haggis in India?)

Finlay argues that, as well as being disproportionately important to Scotland while it was a going concern, the Empire lingered longer in the Scottish consciousness afterwards than it did south of the border. There seems to have been more support for the 1956 Suez campaign there than there was in England, for example. Finlay suggests this may have had something to do with local pride in the regiments, which had always played such a disproportionate part in the forcible maintenance of the Empire, as witnessed by the ‘Save the Argylls’ campaign in the 1960s. (More here)

It seems that yearnings for past glories of empire never go away ... and some believe that the IPA is a font of authority, and keep on smoking, and wonder where the lung cancer came from ...

Well at least that dates the Oreo. Clearly she didn't catch up with JJJ until after 1997 ...

As for whether a radio station might consult with the punters that listen to it, and decide on their programming accordingly, enough of that idle, filthy, vile chit chat about democracy ...

Luckily MP James Woods has a way to bring the Oreo up to speed ...

And perhaps they need a few other lessons, such as the notion that music is a method to produce national unity ...

The pond can recall where that took the likes of Wagner, Beethoven, von Karajan and the BPO ...

Yes, other charlatans, frauds and phoneys have talked of national unity and people united in a spirit of modern patriotism, and used music as a mechanism to do it.

Here you go, and along with it a hefty surcharge to the Godwin's Law swear jar ...

Once again the songs of the fatherland roared to the heavens along the endless marching columns, and for the last time the Lord's grace smiled on His ungrateful children...

Not only is it impossible to carry on the struggle itself if the storming battalions do not find the masses of the workers in their ranks; the technical preparations are also impracticable without the inner unity of our national will ...

The fact that our people did not have a national being based on a unity of blood has been the source of untold misery for us. To many petty German potentates it gave residential capital cities, but the German people as a whole was deprived of its right to rulership. Even today our nation still suffers from this lack of inner unity; but what has been the cause of our past and present misfortunes may turn out a blessing for us in the future. Though on the one hand it may be a drawback that our racial elements were not welded together, so that no homogeneous national body could develop, on the other hand, it was fortunate that, since at least a part of our best blood was thus kept pure, its racial quality was not debased...

If in its historical development the German people had possessed the unity of herd instinct by which other peoples have so much benefited, then the German Reich would probably be mistress of the globe today. World history would have taken another course and in this case no man can tell if what many blinded pacifists hope to attain by petitioning, whining and crying, may not have been reached in this way: namely, a peace which would not be based upon the waving of olive branches and tearful misery-mongering of pacifist old women, but a peace that would be guaranteed by the triumphant sword of a people endowed with the power to master the world and administer it in the service of a higher civilization...

And so on ... and with a bit of luck, thanks to the Donald,  and his down under supporters, the Oreo and Dame Slap amongst them, the Reich might yet return and live a thousand years ...

Meanwhile, the pond is still outback with Malware and Rowe steeped in cow pats ... by golly, that bull looks prime and ready to go to stud ... with more Rowe here ...

  1. Orio (or was it one of your links?) has got it right on Scottish ambiguity. Back in my counselling days nigh on 30 years ago I had a guy who was a total wreck emotionally and socially when I began seeing him. He was a very solitary, decent and talented guy but frightened the life out of others who consistently found him 'creepy'. He opened up a little to me over time.

He was well aware of his condition but somewhat helpless to bring about change. He blamed it all on his father's bullying dominance. His father had been a career army officer serving in the British Army in various empire outposts, predominantly the Raj India. It was much like that described above, with the Scots in the thick of things (the dad was Scottish).

He found it curious with his father that he hated what the English had done to the Scots (and he still believed in Scottish nationalism). Yet at the same time he felt a kind of pride in serving in the British Army and the amazing British imperial dominance in the world. He thinks that ambiguity contributed to his father being such a screw-up in domestic home life. By the 1980s the chap was elderly and his much-harrowed wife had long died, leaving only father and son.

Just a decsription of what can occur when holding contradictory belief systems.
