On developing a Nederlands sensa huma ...

The pond still vividly remembers sitting in an Amsterdam penthouse apartment watching an allegedly hilarious Nederlands TV sitcom.

The pond sat completely bemused, while the pond's host routinely cacked himself and frequently convulsed in laughter. The host assured the pond that it was a major hit, essential viewing for vast swathes of the population. More compelling than Neighbours as comedy. The pond managed a perfect impression of a stone, or perhaps a piece of 2 be 4.

(This wasn't because of a lack of comprehension - there were English subtitles. It was simpler form of incomprehension, and luckily the pond now remembers nothing of the show, but ever since has thought the combination "Dutch comedy" an oxymoron of the first water).

The pond was then made to sit through an English bake-off show, then in its prime.

The bemusement turned to bewilderment. This was what the Dutch did for tellyvisual kicks? (The pond later recanted and became a convert to Max Miller's mix of cooking and history, with Miller notoriously inspired by said bake-off show).

Whatever.

The pond makes no great claim to having resumed its relationship with Dutch comedy and thereby discovered the clip below.

It was featured in the Beast...
