The pond had hoped to spend quality time with prattling Polonius this day, as is right and proper and fit and meet, and thus and so for the weekend, but things just keep getting in the way…
First the crisis in Western Civilisation simply had to be fixed, and then along came Dame Slap, determined to give Armidale's refugee from Tamworth a damned good pummelling.
How could the pond stand between Dame Slap and a good time for all?
Usually the pond would serve up an image of Dame Slap derived from Enid Blyton, but this time it felt more like there was a dangerously deranged dog roaming the New England ranges, and in urgent need of being put down …
By golly there's a lot of good stuff on the full to overflowing intertubes …but enough of the distractions Holmes, it's on with the hunt and the kill ...
Oh the shame, the shame … the pond felt so mortified, it had to stop and imbibe and old Tom Tomorrow, with more TT here ...
Now back to Dame Slap, nailing Barners to a Kentucky New England apple tree ...
Phew, it was too much … so just as they sometimes cut the pure grade stuff to make it a little more digestible, the pond decided it needed another TT cartoon, in the hope that someone would devise a cartoon down under showing "The view from Barner's brain" ...
Then it occurred to the pond that Barners might be in want of a brain from which to have a view. You tell him Dame Slap ...
So much fun, and strangely the pond was reminded, through all the ups and downs of Barners, going at the pooches, discovering he was a kiwi and having everything he'd done as a minster questioned, and then displaying stunning hypocrisy on the matter of marriage …
… and yet still they went along with Barners and celebrated him and his dinkum air.
The pond was so moved that it hopped in its time machine and went back to the days when Dame Slap and Barners were still courting …
Ah the good old days. Dame Slap ended that piece this way ...
Oh, and Barners too …
Barners, the authentic old-fashioned gritty human nature drink that refreshes?
Talk about being all out of fizz, and Dame Slap doing yet another turn …
Here, have a cartoon to wash it all down ...
Dame Snap: "And maybe Barnaby is just a bit like many of us."
ReplyDeleteWell, he sure is a damned lot like Janet Albrechtson, wouldn't you say ? Not to mention a whole other cast of reptiles.
