The pond simply had to start with this infallible Pope because once again elective affinities, synchronicity and all that, what with prattling Polonius raging at the perfidious French this weekend ...
Polonius will always fight the rip, and anything else you've got, though the pond suspected it wasn't just the perfidious French, it was the ABC's failure to have a single conservative - not even a tea lady - on its staff that was the root cause of the problem ...
Hang on, hang on, since when has Britain been European? That plucky little Brexiting island nation does things its own way and wants nothing to do with those damned untrustworthy furriners across the channel, but the pond digresses. How soon before the ABC's role in this perfidious French outing is revealed?
Nope, a celebration of the liar from the Shire and a reproof of Malware, and a tone befitting this cartoon ...
... and after the poodle, the pond was slowly coming to terms with the notion that Polonius might not mention the ABC, which would be an astonishing, neigh revolutionary feat, and quite ruin the pond's Sunday meditation ...
Amazing. Just a mention of the Beeb in passing and not a single mention of the ABC, just a slagging off of the Vichy French, and a celebration of Ming the Merciless, though he was inclined to be a little Vichy in his day ... (
Trove here, 29th October 1938 at a time when Ming the Merciliness was talking up an Adolf loving storm)...
,
Talk about unreliable Hitler lovers ...
After all that fun, the pond faced a real dilemma. Should it fix education reptile style, or should it find space for Lloydie of the Amazon?
The pond settled for one of those half-baked solutions, a little of one, and a lot of the other ...
Here's the little of the education reptile, no match for dashing Donners, likely not even on a big ground, but rather on some minor league small suburban oval ...
Behaviour Tsars? Perhaps a new job for Vlad when he's moved along? And what about all that discipline? No doubt morale will improve when the bureaucratic beatings stop ...
About all that was worth was a cartoon showing the way forward for teachers needing a little discipline ...
... and so the pond decided to go the full hog with Lloydie of the Amazon...
As usual, the pond should start by noting that Jennifer Marohasy of the IPA has a
splendid listing at DeSmog... and while he's too small an IPA fish for his own listing, Abbott scored a mention in a
DeSmog piece on James Delingpole,
here for the footnotes and the hot links ...
The pond's problems are twofold.
Beavering away at the BOM tends to ignore a global issue. There's more to life and climate science than measuring temperatures at Brisbane airport, and even worse, there's an abject lack of comedy, though there's
been plenty to choose from ... and not so long ago ...
Meanwhile the obsessive compulsives are still banging on about BOM and Brisbane airport ...
The pond has already noted there's more to life and climate science than the temperatures at Brisbane airport, but will say it again, and run an excerpt from First Dog ...
First Dog lists that balloon as containing an *actual quote", but when the pond googled the words, it couldn't find an actual quote.
Why haven't Marohasy and Abbott taken up this matter, which is much more crucial than the temperatures at Brisbane airport?
Are they really so parochial that they think if they can tag BOM on a few wayward temperatures, then the whole wayward climate science edifice can be brought tumbling down, like Victor Mature?
Apparently so ...
The pond would have to rate this one of Lloydie of the Amazon's most disappointing outings in recent times, and it was a blessed relief to discover there was only one short gobbet left ...
Yes, but the big picture, the picture of the overalls, the overall picture as it were, is already in thanks to the Graudian ...
What to do? Well why not have another war? It's the bromancer solution and while some might squeal or moan or sigh, the pond remains loyal to the bromancer, and this weekend he produced a grand opus ... and attention simply had to be paid, no matter the cost or the damage done to sanity.
It will only be of interest to advanced herpetology students, someone sitting for a post-graduate degree in reptile studies, and dammit, it might be long, but it's the bromancer, and whippersnappers should do their best to make it to the end ...
Perhaps the pond should have noted that the bromancer was going to do a Polonius and slag off the perfidious French, but the whole point of bait and switch is to get punters hooked ...
Some might complain about the lack of entertainment, but the pond has requested that Clarence Thomas put in an appearance to strike a happy holiday note, as the bromancer calls down world war three ...
With Clarence helping out, getting through the bromancer should be a breeze ...
Hmm, tempting, it never takes long for the bromancer to run off the rails and start railing about everything from Bragg to the mango Mussolini, and the temptation to turn to Donald cartoons was strong ... but please, have faith in Clarence's ability to entertain ...
Meanwhile, the bromancer is still getting his knickers in a knot ...
A bad period for western democracies? Surely not, surely it's holiday time ...
Sorry Clarence, the pond appreciates the holiday feel, but the bromancer's always inclined to the glum and the apocalyptic ... it's the guilt-laden tyke in him, and no craven, lickspittle, sell-out, quisling Pope is going to help him with that...
Indeedy do, and the US offers democratic inspiration to aspiring democrats around the world ...
Meanwhile the bromancer rolls on, though strangely he doesn't suggest we immediately withhold all dinkum coal and iron ore from Xi ... though without firm proposals some might mistake the pompous posturing for vacuous vacuity ...
Strange, there's critical mineral projects, but apparently coal and iron ore aren't critical.
Never mind, with all that hard work, and the sound praise from the bromancer Albo's probably up for a holiday too ...
At last the bromancer has begun to wind down, with just two short gobbets to go ...
Why yes, and as for human rights, remember to take care of your mum ...
And that's about it, except for a kind word for the mango Mussolini, and with the bromancer apparently having entirely forgotten ...
Uh huh ... speaking of second rate Bourbons ...
And so on and tediously on, but why should the pond expect the bromancer to know, care or bother to mention it?
Meanwhile, under the advice of Chairman Rupert and his minions, the United States grows more Taliban by the day, not that you'd know it by reading the bromancer.
For that you need a cartoon-led recovery ...
And don't forget the guns. The Taliban love their guns ...
I feel bad about drawing attention to the Lloydie/Marohasy words flying from the flagship, but perhaps it is for the general good for others who did not have a free pile of print bestowed upon them, to see just how tedious, and pointless, are the ‘efforts’ of those two.
ReplyDeleteThe then Ms Marohasy first came to my attention when she was agitating at an early conference about the condition of the River Murray, but seemed quite confused about whether its mouth was around Wellington, or - somewhere else. Nothing I have seen from her since then has raised my opinion of her work.
There was comedy in that print edition, because it included Benson’s search for some hope in the cumulative ‘NewsPoll’ numbers. It seems graphics department have even splashed-out on a new picture of this Simon, without the smirk.
Condensing - if you were in what Bugs Bunny would have called the ‘stragedy’ office of the coalition, you would have come down to the conclusion that the only demographic that works a primary vote, sort of, for Mr Potato right now is ‘retired/tick the box for Christian/own home outright’. I say ‘sort of’, because when the questions drop down to ‘Better PM’ Albanese is about 12 points ahead of Dutton even with that same demographic.
So - if you are looking to work the demographic - persons over 65/retired has already absorbed most of the ‘baby boomers’ (coming in from 2011) and, as you go down the age groups, the margin between Labor and Coalition widens. The 18-34 cohort places the (gasp) Greens above the Coal fanciers. Greens!! gulp.
Howabout Christians? Are they following the order in that book of books to go forth and multiply? Um - nope.
Ah - own the home outright - yes, the Coal policies must have boosted that category; why, through our great socio-economic policies, many Coalition supporters own several homes. So - Mr Dutton, sir - just wait while people complete paying off their own homes, and your primary vote should really pick up.
Did Ms Mahorasy claim the Murray originated in Wellington NSW or Wellington NZ, Chad?
DeleteAnonymous - that gave me a big smile, thank you. She did have the South Australian Wellington in mind, because she spoke of being taken there by another person who I happened to know - but was a west coast rock lobster fisherman. Perhaps her confusion was really a harbinger for the way the Nats have played around with the inland rail link, and managed (?) to have a railway line plan without an agreed start and finish.
DeleteDot, red tap shoes await. Imagine sweeping into the reptiles lair, pirouetting and tapping on the koolaid dispenser.
ReplyDeleteSinging;
"The son of Roop went off and got married and had a kulcha war baby
But something was wrong and it's easier to drink koolaid than go crazy
And if there were questions about why the end was so sad
Well Anna dePeyster had no answers about why her son ever has need of a ink gun
Time is a traveller
Tenterfield saddler
Turn your head
Ride again jackaroo, think I see kangaroo up ahead
Because. "Time is a traveller: the Tenterfield Saddler is up for sale
"Building which inspired Peter Allen’s hit song is up for sale, amid calls for the government to step in and preserve it as a cultural destination
...
"The second has everything to do with the pair of red tap shoes still on display in the saddlery window, once worn by Tenterfield’s most famous son: Oscar-winning singer-songwriter Peter Allen (1944-1992).
“It’s full of history and Peter Allen memorabilia … it’s well worth a look,” says Tenterfield resident and saddlery volunteer, Keith Law.
“It’s a tiny little tiny place but there’s a lot to see.”

Kez, writing and mastery over to you for the Loonpond soundtack
Challenge accepted Anony! Thanks for the prompt. A bit of frivolity on a lazy Sunday arvo. Cheers.
DeleteCouldn't Be Badderer
We work for Rupert
Flog his broadsheet
And push his opinions
For 59 years
We've muckraked and slandered
We are his minions
So if you have questions
About issues that matter to most
You'll be none the wiser
We're just here to spin
And to build up his empire for him
We're Rupert's babblers
His jibber jabberers
Off our heads
We are his ready crew
Writing for a tyrant whose
Lies we spread
We're Murdoch racketeers
You'll only find lackeys here
This masthead
Says its Australian
But Rupert's an alien
Who'll soon be dead...
Oh if only, Kez, if only. Let's hope one evil isn't replaced by a worse one.
DeleteI had forgotten, though, how young Allen was when he 'passed'. Kinda sad.
Cheers GB. Yes he was too young only 48. Wrote some good songs.
DeleteYeah though I reckon "I still call Australia home" has been replaced by "We are one, but we are many" as the pop Aussie theme.

Never mind Pond. Perhaps next time Henderson may claim the fact that the ABC is a Conservative free zone on Macron.
ReplyDeleteFunny how Henderson doesn't mention that the USA only entered WWII after it was bombed at Pearl Harbour in December 1941, so they weren't there to stop Roden Cutler being shot in June.
It was also nice of Hendo to bump up his word count by letting us know that Hitler was the ruler of Nazi Germany. What would we do without him?
DeleteThe Bromancer: "Beijing claims Taiwan is a renegade province. In fact, since 1895 Taiwan has been ruled from the mainland only for four years...".
ReplyDeleteIt was ruled for nearly ten times that long by the Dutch:
"Taiwan had no central governing authority until the Dutch colonized the island in the 1620s. The Dutch era lasted only about 40 years, however, and Taiwan became the first place ever to free itself from Western colonial rule."
https://www.britannica.com/place/Taiwan/Government-and-society
And what about the real Taiwanese - there for millennia until the Dutch imported Chinese coolies:
"Taiwanese indigenous peoples (formerly Taiwanese aborigines), also known as Native Taiwanese, Formosan peoples, Austronesian Taiwanese, Yuanzhumin or Gaoshan people, are the indigenous peoples of Taiwan, with the nationally recognized subgroups numbering about 569,000 or 2.38% of the island's population. This total is increased to more than 800,000 if the indigenous peoples of the plains in Taiwan are included, pending future official recognition."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwanese_indigenous_peoples
Couldn't expect the Bromancer to comment on any of that though, I guess.
