In which the pond settles for the comfort food of nattering "Ned" ...

If broadcasters should stick to the facts, why is Polonius prattling on in an opinion piece, and so is the angelic one? Especially as both notoriously are incapable of sticking to the facts, when they much prefer sticking to fundamentalist Catholicism ...

There's an appeal pending … so they're both banned from the pond for being clueless, opinionated and offensive …

Also banned… Matt Canavan and talk of coal …

Yesterday a bunch of children showed more sense than the Canavan caravan, so he's banned too …for being clueless and irrelevant …

Also banned? The bromancer, though it's hard to work out whether to describe his crimes as being contemptible, or beneath contempt …

In that contemptible piece, the bromancer blamed the internet and identity politics, for producing white identity politics … as if all the dog whistling that the reptiles, here and abroad, are somehow without consequences …as if the words don't matter ...

Elsewhere there's interesting reading to be found

The decaying culture of the white European Western world?

Why that sounds just like some loon in the lizard Oz talking of the urgent need for a course in Western Civilisation …unless it happens to be a piece about Donald Trump heiling him as a symbol of American renewal ...

But arguing over a tragedy isn't what the pond needs for a relaxing weekend … nor is promoting the views of a far right ratbag terrorist of the worst kind … the reptiles already do enough of that with their relentless dog whistling about the suffering of whites and Western Civilisation …with the bromancer himself one of the yodelling, howling pack ...

So where to turn, with Polonius banned, and coal off the menu - because young people with more sense - and talk of Western Civilisation beyond the valley of the totally tacky?

Luckily the reptiles also offered the usual snoozefest known as nattering "Ned" …and the pond reckons "Ned" will offer the pond more than enough comfort food from the usual reptile menu ...

The zeitgeist?

That sounds very silly, and so worthy of "Ned", and no doubt he's scribbled about at such length that anyone in sodden Sydney will return to bed and have more of a snooze… while the pond notes that the reptiles, in their usual curious way, decided to award "Ned" the Lobbecke of the day, and so cult status ...

So it's not the internet, and identity politics, but something ineffable and unfathomable? Some mystical blather from a doddering old loon?

Well surely there needs to be a little fun along the way …

Yes, this was spotted at the airport yesterday … Jordan heavily discounted. Oh Overington, where is your hero now? Half priced, and stocks falling … it must be the zeitgeist …

But back to the long haul and to "Ned" and that other zeitgeist ...

Oh he didn't just say "honouring Western civilisation", did he, like a far right wing terrorist in a manifesto? Perhaps "Ned" was just showing how he was feeling the right wing zeitgeist.

And see, oh ye of little faith, how the pond had no need to discuss coal … not when there's "Ned" to speak of climate change demons ("Ned" being incapable of talking about climate science without bringing religion and demonology into the discussion).

Is there some other inappropriate talking point the pond can offer, what with Western Civilisation still being mentioned?

Sorry, was that going too far? Should the pond have noted a fuckwit more fuckwitted and given him space on the pond without thinking of stray innocent readers not expecting to see Piers Morgan celebrating a symbol of renewed common purpose?

Well the pond does have an excuse. You see Rowe this day invokes the pond's favourite book, and beloved old Tenniel …

There's more Rowe here of course … and who else could imagine Theresa as Alice?

But back to "Ned" because the zeitgeist journey is long and the inclination to snooze must be strong ...

Poor hapless confused "Ned" … but here's a way to take the mind away from his suffering …

And what do you know, there was someone else who thought of Theresa as Alice …though the pond does confess to enjoying Rowe's draughtsmanship more ...

By golly, "drink me",  and then quickly off for a snooze, and the pond is feeling that it can handle the rest of "Ned's" blather about the zeitgeist at a canter ...

Did "Ned" just mention women?

There was another reptile out and about this day talking about women, the MAGA-hat wearing warrior for Western Civilisation and climate science denialism known around these parts as Dame Slap …

The pond could have gone there, but didn't, preferring to stick with "Ned" …but why such perversity?

Well you see, Dame Slap ended up with this line …

Yes, women, get back to the kitchen, and be quietly about it, and remember we can barely tolerate you being seen, let alone heard …

Please leave us in peace, while Dame Slap explores her vision of the future …

Yes, there's nothing like embracing discussion and a wide range of thoughts and opinions in the lizard Oz ...

And now back to "Ned", still blathering away, but let no one say they weren't warned by the pond … because once a word, say "zeitgeist", gets stuck in "Ned's" brain, it goes around and around like an old 78 rpm record being given a shellacking ...

No one's thought of a solution? But surely the solution is dear sweet true blue dinkum clean Oz coal, and if that fucks the planet, well it's a form of progress and it will certainly produce some kind of history …

But why should the pond mock "Ned" for thinking a policy reality is how many ways we can fuck the planet?

The poor old thing and his blather about "zeitgeist" has run out of steam - coal, where were you when the steam engine needed you? - and we're finally down to a few last pars ...

Climate change mantras? Now we're talking Hinduism and Buddhism when we talk climate science?

And we're still talking crusades? Perhaps we could talk of the 100 years war and the Scots aligning with the French against the English to explain the causes of Brexit?

Invocations? Still with the religion, and the apocalyptic inevitable day of reckoning?

And there you have it, the reptile mind, not so much in a nutshell as in the nut itself … because in every word is the implicit understanding that climate science is a hoax and a fraud …the solution is coal, and the zeitgeist is a 1950s picket fence ...

And yet Rowe himself spotted some interesting protestors mingling with the children yesterday … and remember you can always spot more Rowe here

And also remember, now you've done with nattering "Ned",  that you can have a nap anytime … why you might even dream of the zeitgeist … or the onion muncher … or the mutton Dutton or "Ned" howling at the moon, or handmaidens sentenced to silence by Dame Slap…or a fear of Europe and of furriners ... but please don't blame the pond for having that sort if nightmare … it's the reptiles' business model to produce fear, hate, loathing and nightmares ...

  1. This rather smart decision needs to be expanded. For the good of all. Tweet from SKYNZ

Careful there, DP, if you 'religiously' (haha) follow that formula, who will there be to make the daily fair fare ?

  3. Hi Dorothy
This bloody old fart thinks Murdoch still has influence over the voting public that is why he is now trying to influence the people by criticising Shorten and the Labor party so they can lead with the headline it was The Australian that won it.
It did take a bit to read all of his ranting and raving though.

  4. "Perhaps there is no failure that does not deserve another try". He must be talking about neoliberalism. The reality card is actually their problem not their trump. They have the productivity improvements, low wages, lower taxes and what does the average schmo have to show for it?.

I think their are times that this sort of rhetoric only serves to highlight your own failures.
