In which the pond learns what to hold dear, at half the price of sanity ...

The pond must apologise … of late it's been slow to roast in the pit of stupidity and climate science denialism that routinely litters the luddite pages of the lizard Oz …

Even though it was blessed with a Lobbecke, guaranteeing cult status, the pond didn't have the stomach for this, which turned up a few days ago …

The pond jumped ahead to cut to the chase, and face the facts, having already taken a look at the facts as seen by Williams through a pulsating love of coal ...

And meanwhile, of course, we can keep burning coal up the wazoo, and all will be well …

Strangely, this logic - the usual selfish strangled cry of self-pity, why us, why now, how unfair it all is that we should do anything about coal - was matched by the lizard Oz editorialist …(the reptiles love their crusaders to march in rigid uniformity).

And so on and on …

They never give up, do they - fiddle at the edges, blather about the third world, carry on about fair dinkum solutions, oh coal, sweet glorious coal - but the pond gave up before it finished, and instead moved on to today's news, and the latest line-up of reptile offerings, and luckily it was savvy Savva day…

The pond couldn't resist that headline on the left. Abhorrent to all we hold dear?

What's the difference between 'Lock Her Up' and 'Bomb Her Down'? Not much when you come to think of it, as the white nationalists carry the country back to the good old days of Lindbergh …

What an appalling hypocrite he is, what a stupendous liar, how wondrous that the servile, forelock-tugging Murdochians should so abase themselves ...

Happily the pond isn't in to brooding, and rightly the savvy Savva had also been blessed with a Lobbecke, ensuring cult status …

And here the pond should note why it loves reading Savva. She's the essence of liberal gloom, and a serve puts the pond in an optimistic, cheery mood for the rest of the day.

Take her header - not the one "Libs faced with heavy artillery" but the one suggesting that the onion muncher and his mob might try a little kindness …

Try a little kindness? That's like suggesting the Donald abandon his patented "lock her up, bomb her down" cry ...

Naturally the pond jumped to the most seminal issue the text offered. Since when has the "h" disappeared from 'verandah'?

Oh sure, 'veranda' is an alternative usage, but is 'verandah' disappearing the same way that verandahs have disappeared from McMansions?

The pond always sung along this way …

The wisteria on the back verandah is still blooming
And all the great aunts are either insane or dead
Kensington Road runs straight for a while before turning
We lived on the bend; it was there I was raised and fed
Counting and running as I go
Down past the hedges all in a row
In Adelaide, Adelaide

Nothing will drag the pond back to Adelaide or to the use of 'veranda' …

And now, back to some more undiluted gloom and another righteous dose of "I told you so …"

But billy goat, butt, the onion muncher stayed on, and while the reptiles love to live in alternative universes, what use does it serve, except to bathe and swim in coal like Scrooge McDuck in his money bin.

And dear sweet long absent lord, did the pond read the savvy Savva correctly?

"...Egged on by their mates in the media who spent three years excusing Tony Abbott, egging him on, and praising him for what he did"?

Did she just read the lizard Oz editorial of yesterday urging a return to the onion muncher's stupidest idea, that of direct action?

You know, a million peasants in the field will fix everything, and meanwhile we can get on to fair dinkum energy solutions, like coal, glorious coal, three banquets a day, our favourite diet, just picture a great big plate of coal, fried, roasted, or stewed, oh coal, magical coal, wonderful coal ...

While the pond loves a decent dose of onion muncher bashing from the savvy Savva, why doesn't she name names?

After all, she's surrounded on all fronts by the onion muncher's media mates.

They litter the lizard Oz like kitty litter, they scribble the editorials, they skew the news, all the while piously pretending that telling daily porkies, misrepresenting facts, and promoting loons with no grasp of science or reality is "Abhorrent to all we hold dear".

Sorry, it's time for a last gobbet of gloom ...

And there you can see how the verandah has been stripped back to a porch, as the savvy Savva seeks solace in a populist agenda full of humbug and snake oil salesmen pitches …

Fair dinkum, that's what it's come down to. Forget comrade Bill, for whom the pond has little time. Please allow the pond a little of its own derision, not to forget ambition, distraction, uglification, reeling and writhing …

More at the Graudian here ...

More at the AFR here

Fair dinkum populist fuckwittedness … and that's ScoMo's and the savvy Savva's redemption? Oh the pond will be in a good mood all day ...

And so to the Rowe of the day, which allows the pond to return to where it started, with all that the Donald holds dear, with more genuinely dear Rowe here ...

  1. "They never give up, do they..."

No indeed, they persistently exhibit their extreme Obsessive Compulsive Disorder day after day, time after time. With The Muncher and The Barnacles as prime examples. Though thinking that the 79 year old political failure John Howard might win hearts and minds with a day in Wentworth is right up there too, I reckon.

But then, that's why they keep on winning, isn't it.

    1. The 79 old fart looks like he needs an eyebrow trim, GB. I know he's taking his fashion tips from Ming, but Menzies at least had a long enough face to put the eyebrows in a bit of perspective. Howard just looks more like a toilet brush each time I see him. And where did that grimace come from? Is that what happens when you get old?

    2. Just a bit of a dead loss all round, you reckon Anony.

As to the old age grimace, it's either that or an insane grin, mate.
