In which reptile Stewart updates the pond on his update ...

An interesting thing happened today …a change in the air, a mood swing, though the bromancer seemed to have gone missing and the Caterist decided it was wiser to bob up and talk about Brexit than mention the Donald …

The pond even made a rare visit to the Bolter to see how he was reacting, but everything was running on empty as usual there …

It was left to Cameron Stewart to chart the sudden change in the mood for the lizard Oz.

Here he was early on, doing the usual Fox schtick …

It seemed the auguries were right, the Donald was upbeat, Vlad the impaler not so sour ...

A partial thaw, a success of sorts …

Admirable stuff, as the forelock-tugging quisling played a straight bat and treated it all with solemnity and seriousness and studied analysis ...

Actually it didn't take days. As noted by the pond, that piece by Cameron Stewart was at the top of the digital page early this morning, and soon came that change in mood ...

A furore? A major price to pay for a partial thaw, a success of sorts?

You mean the forelock tugger didn't get it the first time round?

Suddenly our adept analyst discovered that the Donald made a few mis-steps and mis-spoke a few times ...

There's nothing the pond can say that a few cartoons can't manage.

Back to our astute analyst, but it's going to take a lot of spinning to get the Donald out of this one, and Stewart didn't make much effort, as he suddenly discovered the Donald had been wilfully blind ...

Sheesh, give the pond another cartoon ...

Luckily there's only one revisionist gobbet to go ...

What they achieved in Helsinki? Why they achieved harmony and a unity of purpose. As the immortal scribe noted earlier this day, the Donald was upbeat and Vlad the impaler wasn't so sour …

So it goes in the befuddling, befuddled world of the Murdochians, where the rewriting of history is an ongoing fruitful business, with references to 'Orwellian' obligatory …

  2. Cameron Stewart: "There was obviously no agreement on the question of Russia's interference in the 2016 US election. Trump asked about it and Putin denied it."

No agreement ?? There's obviously complete and total agreement: Trump asked about it and Putin denied it and Trump believed him utterly. And junked his own security community to do so.

"...world of the Murdochians, where the rewriting of history is an ongoing fruitful business"

Right on, DP. Never mind Winston Howard, all hail Winston Smith !

But I do gotta say that there just might, maybe, be a weird kind of sense to Drumpf's peregrinations: that if China is striving to become the world leading suzerain power, then maybe some kind of "close relationship" between "these two maverick leaders of the world['s] largest nuclear weapons states" makes some kind of 'Great Game' sense (a Game in which Russia has some experience of playing and losing). Though I think that Xi got to Putin long before Donald did.
