In which the irrepressible Shanners turns up in a late Sunday arvo slot to the surprise and delight of all lost children ...

The reptiles should really be required to run trigger alerts on certain columnists …

As soon as the pond spotted Shanners banging on in the usual way, this nugget from The Saturday Paper reared its ugly head ..

After that, the pond naturally approached Shanners' piece with trepidation ...

Uh huh, but then that Di Stefano tweet hovered back into the pond's mind ...

Dearie me, these acid flashbacks were getting in the way of the pond's considered consideration of Shanners' piece ...

Yes, but what about the baying twitterati mob?

By this time, the pond had given up. The memories kept flooding back and getting in the way … but luckily the last gobbet was short ...

It probably behoves the pond to keep the last gobbet of twitterati short too, though they went on and on ...

Never mind, at the end of it all, the pond realised that parenting is difficult, and that parents suffer in many ways over many issues ...

  1. If Angela Shanahan didn't exist, is it even vaguely possible that she could be invented ?

  2. I can't get past her first par

Maybe Angela spent her 15 years in a school dedicated to teaching children with fuckwit parents, and that is entirely possible.

    1. Are you implying that Angie schoolmarm'd her own kids, mat ? She certainly qualifies for your description of parenting state.

For mine, I wonder just what variety of that ancient and bloody myth she believes - does she clearly understand the distinction between 'mortal' and 'venial' ? From her description of her son's marriage as merely not being "the same as the marriages of his heterosexual siblings", it seems she regards homosexual practice as just a minor misdemeanour, barely even a venial sin.

Yet RC teaching, as far as my small knowledge tells me (and wikipedia agrees), is that homosexual practice is actually a 'mortal' sin, a 'grave matter' - especially if continued and not repudiated together with great remorse and repentance. So basically, she should be in a panic because one of her sons is going to be refused entry into heaven. And his marriage partner too, I guess.

Unless, of course, neither her son nor his marriage partner actually engage in homosexual 'acts' and thus have a wholly asexual partnership. Erotic, perhaps, in their appreciation of each other, but chaste in conduct. But then, masturbation is a 'grave matter' too, I understand - and especially the "spilling of one's seed upon the ground". Or basically anywhere else except in the uterus of a legitmately married heterosexual partner with the avowed purpose, not of in any way enjoying each other, but 'purely' to impregnate her.
