In which the bromancer goes Donald again ...

One of the joys of a pared back blog is that the pond doesn't have to pay attention to missives direct from Malware's desk, especially when they involve speculations which will be sorted in just a few days time …

Of course if the savvy Savva could have written about the way that the DTO - Malware's supposed pride and joy - was a terribly unique* (*ABC24 approved) disaster zone … and the way that the My Health roll out has been another remarkably unique* (*RN certified) catastrophe …

Then the missive from Malware's desk might have been a little more interesting … and then the savvy Savva might have turned to the NBN, where even the ABC might fail to conjure up the uniqueness of this uniquely cataclysmic calamity …

But enough of servile forelock-tugging to the humbug man intent on returning the country to the days of the White Australia policy … a returning Pope cartoon will settle that one right out of the gates …

… with more settling Popery here

And now for a dash of the unique rambling eccentricity and loonacy for which the reptiles have an almost unique reputation …(yes, the pond heard that one on their ABC in the last week too).

The Donald? Waiter, can the pond have a Rowe to go?

And what luck, there's more Rowe to go here

And so to the loonatic bromancer ...

It should go without saying that Vlad the impaler is a murderous thug, and Netanyahu is a deeply corrupt man who recently helped Israel become a full theocracy of the very worst apartheid kind, and the Donald is so deeply in hock to the Ruskis that he'll do and say anything in support of his authoritarian money lender … which naturally sees the bromancer put a tremendous spin on what fabulous chums they are …

Never mind, while the pond munches on a specially imported Aldi Iranian date, please do go on ...

And there you go, there's how the bromancer would have been pretty handy in the 1930s, explaining how Adolf wasn't such a bad man, and there would be worse policy choices than supporting him, and wasn't it nice of him and Uncle Joe to sign a pact …

Of such infinite hot air are pandering blimps made ...

Of course it's all idle speculation.

This morning the pond woke to the news that the barking mad moustache sometimes known as John Bolton had used the Mueller inquiry as an excuse to walk back the Donald's invitation for Vlad to visit the White House … (Politico here).

Who knows what the Donald will get up to next? The only certainty is a love of authoritarians,  junk food and twitter, though only as a form of verbal diarrhoea ...

And speaking of diarrhoea, it's now back to the red carpet otherwise known as the forelock-tugging bromancer ...

Uh huh, waiter, please pass the pond another Aldi Iranian date … and please, sprinkle a little savoury socialism on it for flavouring …

And so to another little bon mot as the reptiles whip themselves up into a confused lather over that other Malware disaster …

John Durie is the sort of prime doofus the pond is thankful the pond can also ignore.

There is no NBN rivalry in the retail sector … except for some city apartment blocks that sneakily got fibre to the basement before the NBN could fully assert its monopoly powers …

There is no rivalry in the pipes … instead blather about consumers winning is the sort of faux nonsense about competition that goes on in the delivering of energy, with retailers offering all sorts of specious benefits, except the ones that count … lower costs and prices …

The pond has no idea how the reptiles still cling to this sort of blather about consumers winning, either with the NBN or with energy … when clearly everyone is a loser under Malware's order …

(The ABC here, way back in 2015)

He didn't know what he was doing, and now we live with a dearer, slower disaster.

And we will keep on living with Malware's scrambled egg for years to come, and the unholy mess that Malware made of it will likely never be sorted out, though in due course in inner urban areas, by sheer weight of numbers, will demand a better service …

Remarkably the lizard editorialist did his or her best this day to give Malware a free pass, overlooking past words and failed deeds …

Actually it didn't have to be this way at all, and the reptiles can take their share of the blame for the fuck-up, relentlessly campaigning as they did to try to save Foxtel, under the delusional notion that they could avoid cable-cutting and keep sustainable their old-fashioned box model delivery system …

Now Foxtel is taking to satellite …good luck with that …and churn rates are high as the corporate shills blather about "opportunities" … and the $998 million dollar write-down produced talk of a major restructure … and meanwhile the country can mourn the loss of a first-rate form of connectivity, fucked over to protect a failed Murdohchian business model …

The only question is the size of the level of anger from consumers directed at Malware and the Murdochians …

But the news isn't all bad … and a few cartoons are to hand to celebrate the upside to the wonderful world of reptile dinkum clean Oz coal, oi, oi, oi …which promises to do to the world what the Murdochians helped do to the NBN ...

  1. Bromancer: "It is an open question whether the West can ever again effectively intervene in a hot civil war anywhere with its own troops. In the end, the West is too morally fastidious to be efective."

Que ? Just where did "the West" ever "effectively intervene" in a hot civil war with or without "its own troops" ? Korea, maybe ? Vietnam maybe ? Perhaps Afghanistan ? Iraq ? Syria ? Where ?

And: "[Russia's] economy is only about the size of Australia's."

Here the Bromancer is almost uniquely* correct, according to the International Monetary Fund anyway (and if you can't believe the IMF who can you believe):

Russia: GDP 12th in the world, US$1.527 trillion; per capita 62nd US$10,608
Australia: GDP 13th in the world, US$1.379 trillion; per capita 10th US$55,707

Anyway, we also have some input via the ABC ("way back in 2015"):

"Now, despite a blowout in the cost of his [Turnbull's] version of the NBN from $29.5 billion to $56 billion ..."

Strewth, that extra $26 billion or so would have financed the ABC for something over 20 years !

    1. Don't mention Saudi Arabia! Or Ye(s)men!

    2. Of course not, Anony, we're much "too morally fastidious" to ever mention them.

  2. I wonder if even the rusted on Oz reader believes this stuff or is it just intended to wind up the odd rational person reading the freebies in an airport? Hands up anyone who thinks they have benefited from a privatisation, demutualisation or corporatisation. For the execs it is a big payday, the likes of Macquarie Bank get to pick over the carcass but the consumer (I even hate being called that) gets inferior service. Then you get a lecture from a dullard like Durie. MTM is more efficient? His engineering qualifications must be on par with Moorice's climate science degree - nonexistent.

On another subject, sometimes people are just what they seem to be. Trump seems like a fool and the bromancer seems like a man with no moral compass. Maybe it's that Jesuit casuistry or maybe it's just a personality disorder, but it's hard to see how someone professing christian beliefs can be an apologist such low acts.

    1. I would offer just one small correction, Bef. It's actually quite easy for somebody who professes christian beliefs to be an apologist for anything and everything. 2000 years of practice guarantees that's a well embedded skill.

It's the poor sods who actually believe Christianity that have the problem. Fortunately, there's very, very few of them - and the Bromancer most definitely isn't one.

    2. Yes - I see now. This is my naivety at play again.
