In which the pond resorts to the worst sort of complimentary woman to wrap up its Sunday meditation ...

The pond's only got one more meditation for this Sunday in it - turning socialist with Dame Groan almost did the pond's head in - and a few days ago thought it wise to stock the prepper bug out with decent post-apocalytpic reading material.

So the pond held over a WSJ piece on Xian unity, as suitable post-Pellist fodder designed to distract the zombies…

The pond loves this sort of stuff. After centuries spent consigning each other to hell, the attempts of Xians to show brotherly and sisterly love for each other is remarkable evidence of how Jesus didn't have the first clue about all the heresies he was setting in motion …

These theological cat fights aren't going to be sorted in the pond's lifetime, and promise more centuries of fun to come ...

Yes, there are amazing scenes, as some Xians come to recognise that gays are actually human beings … almost as if they'd read some of the embracing things Christ himself had to say ...

Amen to that, because persecuted secularists, atheists, women wanting to control their bodies and not become complimentary women, and gays still brooding about the way fundamentalist evangelicals, Catholics and Islamics still exude bigotry and hate are also united - in a herding cats way - against centuries of idle superstitions feuding about who has the most heretical superstition to hand … and who might then be in a position of power to impose their preferred heresy on others ...

And so to a burdensome duty. The pond always pays attention to one of the pillars of the Catholic church, the complimentary Shanners, but was in an agony on the way to deal with this weekend outing …

Yes, she went there, and dared to ascribe feelings and sentiments to a murdered woman she apparently has no personal knowledge of, and therefore hasn't the foggiest clue about what the woman might have felt let down about …

Even worse, the column traded off on Dixon's name and tragedy by dragging a photo of her into position at the top of the piece …

The pond felt the need for a little editing, since there's no reason Dixon should be dragged into Shanners' complimentary mess …

So first there's the headline, sans photo …

The natural response to that header is to feel heartbroken about the Catholic church's acceptance of depravity, including the bizarre notion that men and women should so distort their lives as to exclude a joyful celebration of their sexuality from their being …

But worse was to come, because Shanners soon produced one of those immortal lines, which immediately makes the pond switch off … you know, the "as the  mother of six" routine …

The pond doesn't mind or care if anyone is the father or mother of six, one or none … it provides no particular insight or authority into the human condition to boast of having produced a number of spawn …

But that's shown clearly enough in Shanners' piece,  because not content with ascribing thoughts and feelings to a murdered woman, Shanners dared to talk of a "feminist comedy act" suddenly being seen as a tragic example of feminist symbolism … and then daring to suggest that feminist Eurydice's person - because that apparently was part of how she perceived her person - as a feminist - somehow got lost in the culture wars …and then proceeds to scribble a furious piece suffused with assorted culture wars, guaranteeing that any memory of the murdered woman would be lost, and/or traduced, by what she'd scribbled ...

It's this sort of stuff that reminds the pond just why it does what it can to harm the lizard Oz business model …and so to the first gobbet, sans trading off photo of a murdered woman …

If the pond wanted to conjure up the state of muddled wombat confusion and thinking in this complimentary Shanners, the matter of Singapore would do the job … as if deploring the soft dictatorship of Singapore should simply be a leftist matter, when anyone with the remotest interest in liberal democracy - as the reptiles claim they are on a daily basis - wouldn't deplore the way that Singapore is run on a deeply corrupt, repressive, crony capitalist basis, not as bad as the recent disasters in Malaysia, but still deplorable enough … nice enough to visit, perhaps, but while there don't say boo to a goose for fear of the consequences ...

But even more bizarre things were to come.

The pond thought it had seen everything with Dame Groan getting into bed with the DLP, but by the end of this screed, the complimentary Shanners somehow ended up in bed with Andrea Dworkin …

And there, in a nutshell, is the reason why the Catholic church is full of warped people molesting children, and then trying to hide that reality from the law …

As for Dworkin, she led an unhappy life, as Greg Hunters can discover here, and like the complimentary Shanners, she couldn't quite understand that what happened between two consenting adults in private was a matter for them …

It's typical, andy spiteful, that the complimentary woman should deploy the ugly v. attractive routine in relation to this, but that's on a par with someone who deploys the status of motherhood as guaranteeing moral supremacy and divine insight … though curiously it often comes to a halt when there's the need to understand non-consensual matters, as say, a murdered woman's photo being used to head a culture wars piece, or perhaps a priest in a position of power and a hapless child in the thrall of that power …

An understanding of those different dynamics might have led priests to a happier place, where they could head off to enjoy crucifixion and flagellation and sadomasochist scenes without the top dressing of religious pieties …ah, if only Catholics could recognise they're heavily into sado-masochism, not to mention cannibalism …

But enough, the pond is too enraged to argue sensibly, and instead looks forward to the gradual dissolution of churches with their mother Grundy wowserism and their deep hypocrisy and their willingness to traduce a feminist woman murdered in the service of their ongoing culture wars …

It'll take a few thousand years, but eventually a thousand religions worshipping a thousand gods might work out there's not a thousand heavens to hold them, and instead they might attend to matters here on earth ...

And with that, it's time for a few cartoons as a cathartic bromide … perhaps illustrating Xian piety in action …

  1. Francis X. Rocca: "...the Catholic Church has so far declined to become a formal member of the WCC, where it would have merely one vote alongside those of 350 others."

Yes but, butt; given that the Catholic Church is the one and only true God's true church, that one vote is God's ! He/She/It would obviously make sure that the Catholic Church's one vote always prevailed. I ask, what is going on here - has the Catholic Church truly lost God's support like Joe Ratzinger reckons ? Will God really close it down and start again ?

Given that the pond "looks forward to the gradual dissolution of churches " a teensy Joe Rat quote might be apropos:

"From the crisis of today the Church of tomorrow will emerge — a Church that has lost much. She will become small and will have to start afresh more or less from the beginning. She will no longer be able to inhabit many of the edifices she built in prosperity. As the number of her adherents diminishes, so it will lose many of her social privileges. In contrast to an earlier age, it will be seen much more as a voluntary society, entered only by free decision."

  2. I'm rather stunned by how vile Shanahan can be. It's one of those moments when someone is making a statement they think is reasonable enough but it just demonstrates to all around how morally bereft (& stupid) they are.

She looks right past the real causes and fastens onto the small difference that she obsesses about. What the hell was that stuff about suburban ladies watching porn? She has been a defender of a giant organisation that has facilitated abuse for centuries, organised a massive cover-up then stiffed the victims on their compensation. But what are the causes - roving bands of suburban housewives hopped up on champers, ladies arguing about what feminism means in 2018?

I really hope her kids can rise above the small-minded bigotry of their mother.

    1. Yair, I reckon Shanners is a fine example of the "banality of evil"; not as Hanna Arendt describes Eichmann ("coexistence of normality and bottomless cruelty") but more as Sharon Lamb describes it: "...harm caused by casual, unthinking, low-grade human meanness" (in 'The Trouble with Blame: Victims, Perpetrators, and Responsibility').

And ttere's a lot of it around and about.

Alas the Mormons only get a planet.
