In which the bromancer goes the full Fox ...

The increasingly weird and desperate Caroline Overington enters the pond hall of shame this day.

She began yesterday by wondering news of Barners took so long to break ... and never mind that everyone and his dog up Tamworth way knew what was going down during Barners' re-election campaign and it was all over social media and even the pond had linked to same ...and then today she came up with an explanation ...

It was all the work of the devious Turnbull government, who cleverly deceived the trusting, innocent reptiles?

What an enormously stupid woman. The reptiles went doggo on it, and never mind the hypocrisy of Barners blathering on righteously about traditional marriage and the way that SSM might undermine it ...

Waiter, send Overington a mirror so that she might contemplate how the reptiles kept the Joyce affair secret ... a process that deserves scrutiny ... and while you're at it, send another to Amos Aikman mischievously reporting on the impact of a Chinese hoax, or at least a UN conspiracy to establish world government ...

Quick, somebody send for Bjørn or Moorice or Lloydie or any of the other great climate scientists who scribble for the rag to put this sort of reporting to bed ...

But these are minor distractions for the pond, because today the Trumpification of the bromancer continued to apace, and what a fascinating transformation it is ...

Who knows why the bromancer has decided to throw his lot in with the Donald?

There is one upside - the bromancer at last has an excuse for astonishing abuse of facts and history, and can now fully live in an alternative universe ...

Nixon's peace promise? It was worth the paper it was written on, coming as it did from a man who had deliberately wrecked the peace process and prolonged the war for his personal political gain ...

In much the same way, the Paris agreement was a way that Nixon, Kissinger and the United States could walk away ...just by leaving 150,000 North Vietnamese troops in South Vietnam, the agreement doomed the south ...

But what sayeth the bromancer, as he peddles one of the great lies - we wuz robbed by Washington - yet again ...

Uh huh ...

Kissinger was asked by the assistant to the president, John Ehrlichman, "How long do you figure the South Vietnamese can survive under this agreement?" Ehrlichman reported that Kissinger answered, "I think that if they're lucky they can hold out for a year and a half." When Kissinger's assistant John Negroponte opined that the agreement was not in the best interests of South Vietnam, Kissinger asked him, "Do you want us to stay there forever?" (NY Times here).

Still, it explains why, in continuing to embrace Nixon and Kissinger and their many great lies, the bromancer can embrace the fatuous nonsense of the Donald ...

See what the bromancer has reduced the pond to? It had resolved never to run another Donald tweet, but confronted by the infinite stupidity of the bromancer, how could the pond not?

And then just to prove the point, the bromancer doubles down and goes the full Donald on the FBI ...

Has the bromancer taken to watching Fox and Friends?

There doesn't seem to be any other explanation ... and yet when Caroline Overington asks about why the reptiles never bothered to expose Barners when it mattered, during the by-election campaign, when it was already a matter of notoriety for those who wanted to know, there's something of an explanation of that domestic phenomenon in the way that the bromancer has now gone the full Donald, and shamelessly distorts past history, while promulgating present lies ...

It takes some peculiar form of skill for an alleged foreign editor to overlook the way that Mueller has already achieved convictions, not least significant figures in the Donald's campaign.

But that's the way it goes when you want to absolve someone, and will tell any form of lie to help the process ...

The how and the why of the bromancer going the full Donald must remain a mystery ... but the process is fascinating ...

It's likely that soon even the fig leaf of balance will be swept aside, and reading the bromancer will be akin to watching Fox television 24/7.

And then we can all enjoy the bigly huge parade ...

As for the matter of Barners, as always the pond turns to the Pope for the final infallible word, with more popery here ...

  1. The herpetarium world gets crazier by the minute, with the Bromancer leading the charge. What he's displaying is way past KoolAid insanity, he's actually become, in his own head anyway, Donald Trump.

But getting on to Carners Barners for a moment: the "personal life" of all and every politician is a legitimate public matter. So long as parliamentarians follow the Burke dictum and therefore make judgements, rules and laws that set public morality and modes of behaviour, then we the Public, have a right to know just what they believe and whether they genuinely act according to their beliefs. And that, to reiterate, requires that their "private life" is, at all times, public knowledge.

But especially with pollies like Barners who drag their family out into public scrutiny at political events and party occasions. They can't have it both ways: either they can drag marriage partners and children out into the public attention as an act of political propaganda, or their "private lives" are strictly private and family is off limits.

  2. Sheridan is another sycophant who is following the Fox news line set down by that evil master Murdoch who is trying to tell his followers that Trump is good for them.
Jon Faine has told his listeners that Sheridan will be on the ABC next tuesday discussing world affairs according to Sheridan I find this so wrong that Murdochs henchmen are given the opportunity have the their version of world events spread via a public broadcaster and we do not have the means to have his version countered.

  3. So DP, can you advise on how the Church will treat one who has flouted the fundamental law of the Church? (I have been told that they are very much against adultery). Do they parade the sinner down the main street, in sackcloth and ashes? Do they denounce him from the pulpit, declaring that no one may vote for him? Or is the Church a forgiving institution, which makes allowance for human frailties?

    1. Confronted by these challenges Joe, the pond always favours a simple stoning of the Monty Python kind ...perhaps Peel street on a Sunday at the intersection where the post office allows stones to be flung down from on high ...

    2. All of that good old traditional canonfare stuff aside, Joe, the big thing is that Carners Barners can't get a divorce (or even an annulment ?), so he and his lady and their child will have to live in sin ! Now doesn't that also mean he (they ?) won't be able to get communion ?

    3. GB, he'll be right for an annulment. His good mate G Pell will put in a good word and a $down and a $a-week should see him ok.

  4. Nixon was many things, but a time traveller he wasn't. He started looking for the ejector seat handle in Vietnam as soon as he got elected the first time. US troop draw-downs started in 1969, and 90% had left before it was even clear the Paris Accords would be signed. To the extent that South Vietnam was sold down the river, that happened on 8th May 1972, more than a month before the Watergate break-in, when Nixon made a number of concessions to Le Duc Tho, giving the talks renewed momentum.

Hard to imagine how a third-rate burglary in 1972 could have forced troop withdrawals in 1969...

Bromancer gets an F for logic.
