In which both Barners and the pond feel Devined ...

Oh dear ... there are some days that the pond wishes certain reptile stories were fully paywalled, and the pond didn't have to know ...

But the Terrorists have plunged in, and worse, Barners has been fully Devined ... with bonus confessional Catholic chant ...

Other opinionistas were on the case ...

... though as an attempt at a distraction, the Devine offered a little full-blown Trumpism.

Meanwhile, even the lizards of Oz were demanding answers ...

What could the pond do? Devine is a Sunday regular, and being Devined long ago displaced Pellism as a Sunday feature ...

The pond would have been happy for the rank hypocrisy of Barners to have been pointed out, and a check done on his expenditure of taxpayer funds, and a full discussion of the treatment of his current partner within the political bureaucracy had, and left the rest to personal life ...

As it is, it'll be a long time before Barners ever feels the need to hand anyone a righteous lecture and sanctimonious claptrap about the joys and virtues of traditional marriage ... and if anyone else in Malware's government feels the need, out will trot questions about Barners' rank hypocrisy ...

But the Devine went the full tabloid hog, and as well as writing the story, she also scribbled her usual Sunday opinion piece ...

Before plunging in, the pond felt the need of a fortifying cartoon, and as the Devine had mentioned the Donald and his economic policies, and the need to go the full Donald...

Suddenly Bill Clinton and a balanced budget or even a surplus are back in vogue?

And so to the Devine doing over the hapless Barners ...he probably deserved it, but it was far too rich a brew for the pond ...

Oh first a message from our sponsor.

Feeling like a heart-attack in old age? Why not try eating a mini Babybel a day? With a hearty 16gs of saturated fat per 100g, 24g of all fats, per serving, Babybel knows there's a job to do, and it's getting on with the job ...

And now, with the real purpose of the Devine story out of the way, it's on with the show ...

It's simply too much. Even for the pond, it's too much. A devouring by the Devine, a fundamentalist Catholic python in action, and with personal anecdotes to supplement the story.

Quick, is there another Donald cartoon in the house?

But the pond has a ghoulish streak, and once a roll, doesn't know how to stop, and nor does the Devine ...

Oh dear sweet absent lord, not the Devine talking about it with little Johnny?

Well no, that's a screen grab, it won't work, stray readers will have to go elsewhere for that fix.
It will be noted that the pond left the marker at 00.00, though if it had the chance, the pond would have left it at 0000.000000.

The thought of the Devine live is enough to deaden the pond's soul.

As for Barners being out of sorts? You would never have guessed it, when the reptiles were in their full anti-SSM mode, and faithfully regurgitating all the usual nonsense about the joys and virtues of traditional marriage, and all the woes that were likely to follow if gays decided to ruin a wonderful institution ...

Oh fucketty fuck, the pond needs another cartoon just to carry on ...

And so to a final gobbet of Devine, but sweet Jaysus, it's long ... and full of personal stuff the pond, and the world, didn't really need to know about, not when rank hypocrisy would have sufficed ...

Uh huh, but where were the reptiles when the man angered Barners by invoking his mistress?

There it was in the good old Inverell Times - the pond once featured on its front page, but that's a story for another day.

The Barners' piece wasn't the full story, but it was back on November 29, 2017 ... just a couple of weeks after Barners had been wandering around sanctimoniously blathering about the virtues of traditional marriage and the importance of voting NO, and by the way, how about re-electing a Kiwi for making a basic error in the paperwork.

Lookee here, how they danced ...

Sheesh, oh how they joked and they danced and they laughed.

Sheesh to the power of ten, is there another Donald cartoon that might wipe the taste from the pond's mouth?

Oh maybe not ... how about another one just to crush every last dream?

Are you sure about that, DP ? To me, Carners Barners has always come across as a 'holier than thou, do what I say not what I do' kind of fruitcake, so I don't reckon there'll be any reservations or hesitations on his side.

But then, for once, The Devine spouts a couple of thoughts that it's very hard to not take seriously:

Firstly the matter of 'privacy' when she notes that:
"And then in June, Natalie and Barnaby defied the rumours by showing a united front at the press gallery midwinter ball."

So there you go. the press gallery midwinter ball isn't exactly, unless I've completely misunderstood it, a private family event. So Barners is happy enough to expose his 'private life' to the world in pursuit of his political ambitions. Now Natalie may be offay with that or not, but it's not exactly "keeping it private" is it.

And then the question of honesty and duty:
"Voters deserve to know the character of their candidates because it gives an insight into how they will behave in office ..."

Precisely. Since, with or without the imprimateur of Edmund Burke, our elected "representatives" will vote on matters that they do not ask us about, but just follow their own opinions, we are entitled to have some kind of idea what political candidates - and representatives - beliefs and moral imperatives are before we hand that power to them. Definitely no "right to privacy" there, because we also need to know whether or not our politicians actually live up to - or like Barners, casually ignore - their beliefs and convictions.
