In which the pond kicks back and relaxes with the angels ...

And so to a little light weekend reading, which in the truly perverse case of the pond, is taking a sadistic pleasure in the moaning, keening, wailing, sighing, groaning, lamenting, sackcloth and ashes carry-on of your average fundamentalist Catholic, at one with the bigotry and homophobia of fundamentalist Islam and whatever other form of fundamentalism is currently doing the rounds ... (get your complimentary women here)...

"No religion, Christian or otherwise, will ever accept that change as part of its teaching on sexual morality"??

Hmm, the pond must tell that to the homosexual Catholic priest in the extended family, happily in a de facto relationship with a very nice man, and still saying mass, though yearning for retirement ...

The last time the pond spoke with him he still gave every appearance of being a devout believer and not just going through a charade for benefit of pay check and parishioners ...

The truth is, despite the pond's relentless baiting, there are many decent Christian and Islamic and other religious types out there in the world perfectly prepared to follow the injunction of love and let love, live and let live, and all the rest of the ancient manual trade labourer's socialist's preachings ... with homosexuality conspicuously absent from his radar, forcing zealots to wander off into the old testament, and ignore the many contradictions inherent in that rampantly silly text.

Like slavery, polygamy and all the rest: "No religion, Christian or otherwise, will ever accept changes to slavery and polygamy, the mixing of fibres and the eating of shellfish and hapless pigs as part of its teaching on morality!?"

As for the Labor party and left-leaning Liberals demonising western Sydney - when after all, what's wrong with religious bigots clustering together for a bit of poofter bashing - the pond was astonished to discover that they were the real villains.

Perhaps they'd been paying too much attention to the Terror. Luckily demonising the west is a Terror speciality:

Damn you leftists for demonising Islamics.

The pond could have gone on - there's one theory that the Terror has printed enough Islam-bashing papers to stretch to the moon - but it's time to revert to a last gobbet from the whining, moaning one ...

Oh please, spare the pond the cant and the hypocrisy about family values and above all the nonsense of Orwellian diktats of Big Brother, coming from a church that forces its customers into confession under dire threat of withholding an eternity of playing golf in a Trump resort ... or some other delusional form of paradise ...

Liberty of conscience ... liberty of thought? That from the grey shrouds of a fundamentalist religion determined to control and dictate to conscience and thought?

As for that blather about sexual morality, everybody knows where that sort of hypocrisy leads ...

But the pond will concede it's good business for cartoonists, with TT on something of a roll of late, and much more TT here ...

  2. The Other Shanahan: "The prospect of lawfare against schools that uphold traditional teaching on marriage and sexual morality is pertinent to the debate."

Debate ? What debate ? All we've had so far is a lot of Chicken Little alarm tweeting.

There must be something about being a Shanahan though: delusional madness rulez!

And again: "Will the school be taken to the anti-discrimination tribunal, as was Catholic Archbishop of Hobart Julian Porteous ?"

They will never give up on pushing this absolute lie, will they. It's like the "I've been silenced!" malefactor: they're just going to go on lying about it. As even a brief greghunt will show, Martine Delaney did not object at all to the propagation of the church booklet, but only to the use of "insulting or humiliating language". Specifically that the use of "messing with marriage is messing with kids" is tantamount to an accusation of child molesting and it was that set of words she wanted changed.

Ms Delaney even, during reconciliation, proposed a change of wording so that the pamphlet could be published without further objection. So that is what "silencing the church" - just indeed like silencing the Bolter - means: if the Church can't gratuitously insult people then it is being "silenced".
