In which the pond farewells the cawing Crowe, and turns to the lizard editorialist and the Donald for reptile action ...

While the pond was away, the news broke that David Crowe had left the lizard Oz - tweet here - meaning that there would be no more cawing Crowe jokes at the pond ...

Crikey's tipping a trip to Fairfax, refuge for all those driven mad by the Chairman, and a safe haven away from the kool aid and the pond ...

But the lizards of Oz didn't skip a beat and provided all sorts of angles this day, not least the news that having campaigned endlessly for a fucked up NBN, they'd achieved their goal, yet strangely weren't happy about it ...

Troubled?

Is that the new word for Malware and reptile fucked?

Actually, if the pond may be so bold, the fundamental problem is that Malware, urged on by the likes of the onion muncher and the lizards of Oz, fucked the NBN, and it's now a dog's breakfast, and even free it wouldn't be worth the price being asked for its useless service ...

Currently the drop-outs at the pond occur on a reliable five minute schedule ...

Never mind, also this day the pond could have followed the NBN rumble by joining the war on sharks ...

But the pond has resolved not to make more than passing mention of the national turkey network, and has no time for the "kill all the sharks, and let god sort them out" mob, and so decided it would turn to the lizard Oz editorialist for a lecture on civics.

Before beginning, it should be noted that talk of "civics" is a reminder of the baleful foreign influence afoot in the country, arising from a foreigner owning the lizard Oz and other media outlets ...

Turn to the hapless Poms, and they don't know much about "civics", which was a cloth-eared American word back in the day when the pond was gaining an education.

Looking for a definition, the pond was bemused to come across this in the Cambridge dictionary ...

the study of the way in which a local government works and of the rights and duties of the people who live in the city

Say what? According to the Cambridge Pom dons, it's all about the Inner West Council, which used to be Marrickville and other councils until the state government fucked them over and decided to drop a cool two billion plus fitting out perfectly serviceable stadiums for benefit of thugby league because the Chairman thinks it will help his Terror business plan?

And now, please remember the reptile headline "The value of a literate citizenry" because it will come in handy when contemplating the Chairman Rupert supported Donald ...

"We lack an ethnic-nationalist credo"?

And they bemoan the lack of literacy in students, when this sort of dog-whistling is what passes muster in a lizard Oz editorial?

Uh huh, and guess who said ...

The state is only a means to an end. Its end and its purpose is to preserve and promote a community of human beings who are physically as well as spiritually kindred.

But enough contributions to the Godwin's Law swear jar, because it's astonishing how the lizard Oz editorialist routinely manages to pack so many offensive suggestions and sly outrageous statements into such a short burst ... like coupling talk of non-negotiable standards of literacy and numeracy and concluding it's an "epic fail".

The reptiles are so dumb they don't even seem to be aware they're speaking fluent meme, but speaking of dumbed down democracy and the Donald, the reptiles were remarkably subdued regarding recent events in the US ...

Spared some grief? That's the angle?

Now it's unexceptional that the Donald has already thrown Moore and his ill-fated support of Moore under the bus ... what's poignant and appealing is the way that the lizard Oz manages to find joy and a sparing of grief in what was an exceptional loss ...

Well there's no way that Cameron Stewart is going to brood about the fat cats, the pit bulls, the feral foxes and the bottom feeders ... nor mention the way that Fox News and Chairman Rupert have done their very best to feed, grow and sustain all that's rotten and vile in American politics ...

What an exemplary example of the art of spinning.

Roy Moore is a maverick? A maverick endorsed by the Donald, who campaigned for him, while the Republican party held its nose and tossed 150k into his coffers in the final week in a desperate bid to help him get across the line?

That's how you can go from this to this in the blink of an eye ...

Assange is curious? Is that curious yellow, or curious blue?

Hmm, what sayeth the Adams of his curious friend?

Not to worry. The pond swore off reproducing Donald tweets - such obvious trolling - but as the reptiles raised the matter of literacy a little earlier, try this  recent tweet on for size ...

Mainstream Meadia?

And more of the usual relentless narcissism?

And all linked to Chairman Rupert's Foxy Friends?

And they wonder why young people feel alienated and think the planet and politics is fucked?

And literacy is an epic fail Donald joke ...

Well now there's just time for the pond to admit it really only did the whole damn thing so it could run a relevant Rowe, with the always relevant Rowe here ...

And once the pond has nibbled on a Rowe, there's always room for a few more after dinner mints ...

  1. Never mind that back in the good old father-knows-best days (daze) of the sixties when ming the merciless was the great helmsman we were taught diddly squat, zilch, zero, nothing, about civics or how the government works.

    1. But butt, Anony, there's a heap of stuff we aren't taught at school - for instance, how to cook a decent meal (though the girls used to be taught that under the subject heading of 'Home Economics' while us guys were taught how to use a hammer, chisel, drill and plane under the subject heading of 'Sloyd'. But neither us nor them were taught how to service and repair a motor vehicle).

I think the idea is that we're supposed to show enough general curiousity and personal interest in our life circumstances to go and find out for ourselves how the nation state operates. Totally absurd idea of course - getting the average citizen to take an interest in the people, instituions, processes and procedures that control their lives ? Quite ridiculous.

And yet you know, some of us studying STEM (before it had been invented, that is), fell victim to an old problem, well summarised as: "For those who will go on to use mathematics professionally, school mathematics teaching is too little, too late. For everybody else it is too much, too soon."

Did you ever encounter Wilkinson's Polynomial in school ?

    2. Really Anon, we were taught to salute the flag, and honour a few things, and what else did you need to know, except how to wave at the Queen?

    3. At my school we waved at the Pope.
