In which the pond does epic coverage of the civil war engulfing the reptiles of Oz ...

Luckily, the pond isn't politically correct. It's cheerfully prepared to label any and all comers in the debate as homophobic bigots if that's how it falls ...

After every fragile argument is torn away, that's what it comes down to ... that, or a willingness to go the full Daesh ...

And if the mild-mannered pond is inclined this way, imagine what it's like for the reptiles as they embark on full-out civil war, brother against brother, or sister, and dog botherer versus the onion muncher ...

Oh dear, even 'et tu', dog botherer and minor war criminal?

You'd turn on the onion muncher in his hour of need? The night they drove old onion muncher down, and all the bells were ringing and all the people were cheering?

Remind them of his dogmatic flaws? Oh that's too cruel, that's ... the pond doesn't quite know how to say this ... that's ... almost pondish ...

Oh it's going to be brutal and bloody, this civil war ...

Say what? It's a TV show?

Nope, it's a civil war ...

And it was perky pol against onion muncher, even if the perky pol ducked making a stand ...

Every civil war has its cowards, and the Bishop is one of them, though the pond understands she can make a mean and keen argument in favour of asbestos ...

Meanwhile, the reptiles are doing their level best to put both sides of the civil war on an equal footing ...

Today it was the cawing Crowe's turn to raise saucy doubts and fears ...

As usual, it was the google splash that was a better pointer ... it seems it's all about Malware ...

A nightmare?

That's how it feels in a civil war with the onion muncher in charge of the bushwhacking Quantrill's Raiders...

And yesterday it was Maley's turn to produce a flurry of saucy doubts and fears ...

Yes, there's nothing like labelling gay marriage advocates as a bunch of arrogant poofters to assist in the cause, but then Maley bills hismelf as the "National Security Editor", and so is perfectly qualified to join in the civil war ...

Did someone see an arrogant, highhanded, contemptuous and dismissive mote in the Maley's eye?
Yep, it's that old line about "legitimate opposition", always a tidy way to reference homophobic bigotry ...

It turned out that Maley, while pretending to be righteous and onside, was full of it ... and a contradictory hypocrite to boot, as he then went on to explain in his arrogant, highhanded, contemptuous and dismissive way that the plebiscite was and is a bad idea ...

And that's a bit like saying that the Confederacy might win, because after all, it's a legitimate opposition, with a legitimate cause ...

What else in this epic pond coverage of the epic civil war?

Well it lasted five years or so in the States, so it's going to take a little time here ...

And the first thing to do is to silence or shame the media ... come on down homophobic bigot Zed Seselja to do your valiant best ...

The reptiles couldn't get enough of Zed (minus his two noughts) having a go at the ABC ... so they repeated the dose ...

Ah yes the quislings, the forelock tuggers, and the fellow travellers are out in force this day ... with talk of persecution and suffering filling the air ...

Sure it was a rehash and a beat up, but these things bear incessant repetition.

This day, however, the reptiles did try to change the tone a little with the urbane Urban still very anxious about Jesus going missing in Queensland ...

As for Gra Gra, at last he's felt the need of a little Xian confession, even it's to reveal himself as a man without ethics, scruples or any form of political morality. Will 'whatever it takes' at last cleanse his soul by confessing to his Gold Coast activities?

Of course if the pond was feeling righteous, it might suggest in relation to "colourful identities", that colourful identity Gra Gra has revealed himself as a fail, and should be terminated as a columnist at the lizard Oz forthwith ...

He has to go, would be the line, but instead the pond felt a deep anxiety because sandwiched between Jesus and Gra Gra was family man Kev ...

Well this would surely have to be the last of it.

With Jesus banned in Queensland, no wonder Kev was feeling vulnerable and threatened. Oh this civil war is going to produce many casualties and much suffering ...

What next?

Will the pasty Hastie stand firm and argue for a young earth and creationism, and remind people that the wickedness of Darwin has led to this talk of marriage equality.

After all, Peter Hastie is an upstanding member of the Presbyterian congregation and has written on matters Darwinian here ...

Oh yes, you can rely on the Presbyterians for advanced thinking in this civil war.

But enough already. It's way past time for a papal encyclical, with more Popery here ...

And now a song for those who want to singalong as the civil war keeps unfolding ...

  1. And to think there were nasty cynical sorts who didn't trust Australians to have a mature, civilised debate about a minority group's basic human rights.

oh ye of so little faith.

Day 2, and civil wars everywhere, many bruised Christians already collateral damage.

    All going swimmingly.

A debate as good as our energy policy, which is as good as our NBN, and matched by our streamlined refugee support services.

An exciting time to be 'straylian! Winning bigly right here!

  2. Hardly a comprehensive survey, but my kids are somewhat bemused (befuddled?) by the reaction of a rather privileged class who are absolutely obsessed with other people's behaviours that don't affect them in the least. "If they don't like gay marriage maybe they shouldn't marry someone of the same sex".

It's a proxy war of course, really about control of the Liberal Party, but I find it a funny sort issue to make a final stand on - what if the people actually have a shred of decency?

    1. No wonder you're going by the nick Befuddled. Fancy expecting rationality and coherence ... and the pond despairs for your children. They sound alarmingly rational and coherent. What sort of future can they look forward to in the short time the Donald gives them? Yes, while the world goes nuke, the fundies are obsessed with nuking the gays ..

    1. Hope the climate troll ends up in the gutter, where he belongs. Let us all laugh.
"According to the Australian, Lloyd is a “fearless reporter of all sides of the environment debate”. He has had a long career with the Australian as an editorial writer, among other senior roles, and has been championed by the former editor-in-chief Chris Mitchell.

Mitchell called him the smartest environment writer in the country “by light years” and said he could “run rings around clowns like Tim Flannery in any forum on knowledge of the science”.
      Cheers.

    2. Thanks Anon, excellent link which the pond missed, but which contained delicious details ...

Lloyd, who now lives in CancĂșn in Mexico but is still the Australian’s environment editor, also goes by the name of Efrem Lloyd. He regularly files environment stories for the Australian but is unavailable through the company switchboard.

Hunter, who has also worked for the Australian as a photographer, is a singer in a musical duo with bassist Lloyd, called Hunter Lloyd. “Hunter Lloyd’s music evokes the sensuality of a 1920s bordello and dancing barefoot in earthy forests,” the duo’s website says.

The sensuality of a 1920s bordello meets climate science??!!

There's a couple of links in the yarn too, paywalled but well worth the effort of googling for the comedy ...

  5. Senator Zed Seselja: "We've seen in other parts of the world when we do redefine marriage that religions, Christians and others, can find it difficult, they can find there is persecution when they argue their view of marriage and sexuality ..."

Err, what "Christians and others" ? Name them Zeddy mate, don't be shy, just name them. And then explain why they can't distinguish between 'sacramental marriage' and 'civil marriage'. Surely that immense difference and distinction is bleedin' bloody obvious even to religious nutters ?

But I do have a small cry for enlightenment to loose here on the matter of 'civil divorce'..Now as we all know that large bastion of "Christians and others", the Roman Catholic Church does not allow divorce. It doesn't allow divorce of any kind, sacramental or civil. So what happems here? What kind of awful persecution do Catholic institutions suffer because they "argue their view of" and thus reject, 'civil divorce' ? What awful things are Catholic schools forced to teach Catholic kids because the Catholic Church must uphold the validity of civic divorce ?

    Anything ? Anywhere ?
