In which the pond turns to lolcat listicle nattering "Ned" and the Bolter for its Monday frolic ...

The pond remembers the days when The Atlantic was a stuffy, slightly snooty and up itself centre right publication with a Bostonian air about it ...

When this listicle cat turned up on its digital site as the top feature, the pond finally had to admit that the intertubes had changed everything ...

It probably explains why there's now a confederacy of illiterate twittering dunces ...

Speaking of change, this day both the Major Mitchell and the Oreo continue the lizard Oz reptile wailing and donning of sackcloth and ashes ...

With both the Oreo and the Major Mitchell in a state of Leaking grief, it behoved the pond to pass by in silence.

If you can’t say anything positive about the recent dead, better just to move on. It’s true that the Oreo piece is rich in Oreospeak, from the reference to doublespeak in the hagiographic persecuted paranoid header through to the “colourless, artless overlords of political correctness”, then on to talk of a “state-protected minority”, blather about a scattering of totalitarian tools fashioned by bullies and bludgeoned artists, and most bizarrely, an imaginary invocation of the “rebel newspaper The Australian” and invokers of the name of their father Mao and a thought crime trial of the persecuted innocent.

Follow that up with talk the “image of Marx, Mao and Marcuse (Blessed be the PC trinity!)" and PC bigotry, and by the end it goes truly weird and off the planet, using Trumpian excess:

It's truly deeply weird - the pond fervently hopes the Oreo never gives up her day job and attempts a novel - but there would be other grieving reptiles wailing about different matters to the strangled flower of freedom ... and so the pond moved on to nattering "Ned" ...

Now on the face of it, and with memories of the Chairman Rudd days still in the pond's mind, this idle chatter of the winning formula is purest paranoid balderdash, but the pond always loves nattering "Ned" when he goes into Chicken "the unions are coming to steal your first born" Little mode ...

Actually "Ned", eight years doesn't generate a hostile whirlwind, unless you have a spendthrift clown in charge, and then either side can count on a little backlash.

But the really interesting thing comes in the next gobbet. Nattering "Ned" likes to pass himself off as a man of political principle, the guardian of old school politics. So what to make of the contemptible deal with One Nation that backfired on both the parties?

Why nattering "Ned" is perfectly comfortable with Malware doing a similar sort of deal, thereby encouraging anti-vaxxers, climate denialists, two per cent taxers, and the whole rabid loony fringe that congregates around the red-headed one ...

There you go: "... if One Nation emerges as a genuine loony part of the loony right, the contemptible Liberals will need to consider more such contemptible failed deals, as well as better explain why getting into bed with the barking mad lunar right howling at the moon isn't just pathetic Machiavellianism, it's a principled moral stand."

Speaking of narcissism and psychopathy, as the pond regularly does, and feeling mortified by the absence of the Major Mitchell and the Oreo, the pond felt the need to turn to the Bolter to round out the lessons to be learned from WA...

The pond did enjoy the Bolter's enticing blog splash, which featured a major Malware piece of cleverness ...

There's nothing like a beetoting beer as the sun sinks in the west ...but then it was on with the Bolter firing on all Malware-hating, fear and loathing cylinders ...

The pond would like to give a special call-out to the Murdochian that found that hangdog, cowering image of a skulking Malware ... just look at the bespectacled rascally scallywag, and the guilt written all over his face. The man who sank the west, the man who rooned the west, and took down poor old hapless Colin, an innocent bystander.

That's why the pond enjoys the inimitable Bolter logic.

Sure Barnett had totally fucked up the state and misused and abused a mining boom, and spent as much time blaming the feds and the eastern staters as working out what he might have or should have done ...

So that's all the fault of Malware ...

Well Malware will pass - all politicians do - but the relentless sniping by the Murdochians must surely be hastening the sense of impending doom ...

And so to the Bolter dancing around the One Nation disaster, which, it has to be said, could be set to a Strauss waltz and become the fashion of old Vienna ...

And there you have it. The disgruntled right of Bolter world is still perfectly happy to celebrate One Nation, who in the Bolter's immortal words, weren't tainted by having assorted weirdos, losers and dropkicks howling at the moon, but were "actually tainted by the Liberals."

After all, the One Nationers learned their climate science while sitting on the knee of world famous climate scientist Daddy Bolter ...

Somehow that image of the lolcat listicle on the front page of The Atlantic kept hovering into the pond's mind ...

Of course what the Bolter meant to say is that when the Bolter is over you, it really is over.

A wilful psychopathic narcissist is rarely in the mood for change, and once set on course of Malware hating and Malware destruction, there really is absolutely no way back ...

There might well come a time when the Liberals are looking around at the wreckage, and comrade Bill is planning the move to the Lodge thanks to the relentless sniping and white-anting and distilled essence of Bolter hate, and they might pause to contemplate a broken statue sunk deep in the sand ...

And so to a Pope cartoon to wrap up the coverage.

If there be any number of gods, then one of them will bring the Oreo and the Major Mitchell back from the funeral rites in deeply unsound mind, and the Monday fun can begin again ... meanwhile, more papal insights can be found here ....

  1. With regards to Bill Leak... if you live long enough you get to understand that what goes around comes around.

I certainly didn't wish him ill (literally) but for me his death is neither here nor there.

  2. Am I glad that Bill Leak is dead? No.

Will I miss either the man or his work? No.

Sorry if that doesn't quite fit in with your "Leftie 'leets killed Bill and are celebrating his death!" construct, Reptiles.

    1. Kill Bill ? But that was some kind of "cultish" movie series wasn't it ?

But come on, Anony, if we Leftie leets can't claim our successes, what can we claim. Besides, how is Bill ever going to be proclaimed as a suffering modern martyr and all round wonderful example if the Right Wingnuts can't put his death down to the travails we caused ?

Kinda 'mutual admiration society' stuff there, mate: the wingnuts admire our capability for causing extreme angst to them, and we admire their magnificent ability to make up irrational nonsense and then believe it utterly.

    2. A truly admirable post GB.
"and we admire their magnificent ability to make up irrational nonsense and then believe it utterly." Still laughing....beautiful.

    1. No by golly VC, that's a great link. We should provide a teaser ...

Only a tiny fraction of voters would have read The Australian newspaper’s editorial on Friday in which the paper implored West Australians to vote for Colin Barnett’s Liberals.
Of that tiny fraction, an even smaller portion would have been News Limited shareholders.
Those few readers financially invested in the newspaper they were flicking through must surely today be considering selling their shares.
Rupert Murdoch’s great vanity project, which for decades dominated the nation’s journalistic landscape, has lost the plot....

      Let the reptile wars begin!

    2. Strange how the whole "voters are abandoning the major parties and storming over to the alt-right populists" trope has just suddenly, and completely, disappeared from the conversation, isn't it.

Oh well, maybe Malware will be able to cobble together a preference swap with Cory - that should just about cost him SA as well as WA.

  4. Your next treat on this theme is seeing the Credlin at full sail, tail wind right up her clacker loudly pronouncing to Kristina Kenneally on Sky that Hanson was going to have a smashing win in WA. Honestly, the post-WA schadenfreude is feeling quite epic at present:)
