In which the pond spends some quality time with a bloody horse's head ... and the bromancer ... and warning, a vile reptile cartoon ...

(Above: and more Wilcox here).

With things relatively quiet at the lizard Oz, it was inevitable that the pond should turn to the bromancer for its daily reptile read ...

The bromancer can be a slow burn, but the splash was promising, and before the magic faraway tree moved on, at the top of the reptile digital page ...

Well there's a laugh, right there, in the notion that former Chairman Rudd was a hot runner, a firm favourite on the inside rail, cruelly forced to give way to an unknown outsider romping to the front thanks only to Malware's mischief ... as opposed to say, an o'erweening narcissist who had less chance than the proverbial snowball in a Calvinist hell ... (no complimentary women for you!)

Sadly however, the bromancer was more in Paul "Ned" Kelly waffle mode than full-on wall punching joke mode, and the read turned into a very slow burn ...

The header still offered the same sort of joy, but then it turned into a trudge through the usual prejudices ...

After all that, knowing there was far too much more to come, the pond felt like another Wilcox cartoon ...

And so back to the slow burn, with the hope that something might happen ...

Phew, it was a long wait, and that stern denunciation of George W. Bush working in consort with Saudi Arabia was something to treasure ...

Such a brave stand.

Or maybe not. The rest of it certainly fitted with the postmodern drivel that the pond routinely associates with the bromancer and the reptiles of Oz ...

But really it was those last two pars that did it for the pond.

A very slow burn, but a rewarding one, wherein Guterres became the least worst option, magically, as only a bromancer might manage, and in that penultimate par, a quite mysterious assessment of Chairman Rudd's candidacy to treasure ...

They want someone who will do little harm, and so precisely because Chairman Rudd might have been so effective at doing so little harm, the Chairman didn't deserve to be vetoed. Or might have been vetoed for being effectively harmless.

Or perhaps because the Chairman would have been a very effective activist and so would have done much harm, he deserved to be vetoed ... assuming he could have mustered the votes to get himself anywhere near the position of earning a veto.

The pond contemplated the sublime mystery of the convoluted wording for minutes on hand, trying to work out what it might actually mean, but each time fell short, thinking it was on the same gobbledegook level as transubstantiation and other nonsense of the onion munching kind to be found routinely in the Catholic Boys' Daily, aka the lizard Oz ...

And when the pond went back in time to see if the runes might help understand the bromancer's view of what was effective activism, the pond fell short again ...

Oh dear, that old postmodern decadent European thing again ...

Never mind, there's just time to see what a modern lizard Oz thinks about the world in the way of editorial images ...

Well there's this, which resonated with the bromancer's piece...

And then there was this ...

The pond hesitated to run it, but this is a story which has already done the rounds.

Amongst other reactions, it produced this response ...

Well indeed, but who would expect the editor of the reprehensible lizard Oz to have it any other way? That's the way things go at the Catholic Boys Daily, aka the lizard Oz ...

Jesus frequently weeps ...

Well on the day that Greg Hunt experienced deep CSIRO buyer's remorse, albeit without the class to put the CEO out of his misery, and Nigel Scullion began to talk of a treaty, the pond was reassured to know that the reptiles had maintained their proud record of racism, sexism, homophobia and climate science denialism, with this day racism flourished as the Joker in their pack.

It's a win for the reptiles and no doubt a win for the country. If you fancy living in the Mordor of Sauron ...

Perhaps the pond needs a cleansing Tandberg and more Tandberg here ...

  1. Hi Dorothy,

“They had learned nothing and forgotten nothing.”

The quote is generally attributed to Talleyrand (although he might have borrowed it from something earlier) but it was in regard to the restored Bourbon dynasty after the abdication of Napoleon.

How on earth Sheridan connected it to the Borgia’s is anybody guess. I suppose as Foreign Editor he checks his own copy and lets clangers like this through all the time.

Still it doesn’t leave you with much faith in the accuracy of anything else in his pieces. He truly is a hack.

    1. I think it might have something to do with the "learn nothing" bit DW. But then if you're already omniscient, there's nothing for you too learn, I guess.

    2. Further proof of that out today:

Nominal sales at newspaper and book retailers totalled just $787 million in the June quarter – marking the weakest result in 18 years

Aussie retailers have been facing their share of headwinds and the shifts in technology are playing a significant part. Newspapers and books are a sector that have felt the changes in a cataclysmic fashion. And the effects have been more pronounced in the June quarter with nominal sales falling to the lowest levels in almost two decades.

    3. Well, if times are getting tough, or you simply think it might be time to trim the budget a little, you cut back on non-essential spending. And really, is there any consumer item as non-essential as the overwhelming bulk of current Australian newspapers?

  2. Elsewhere ... listening to Switzer talking to PJ O'Rielly on RN. Ex-fucking-cruciating, he's like a love struck teen, giggle and fawning. He just burned what little credibility he had. The Hillary pile on is just weird.
