Day 47, and the pond enters a firestorm of fierce intellectual debate, thanks to prattling Polonius ...

The pond thought it should get in the mood by thrashing a little air with the papists - more papal fun here - before getting down to its usual Saturday treat of watching silly old Polonius shout at clouds ...

As usual, Polonius was right on the money ...

Oh indeed, indeed. There's no doubt that teh Donald's rallies are a firestorm of fierce intellectual debate.

The pond has little doubt that this shouting down of the debate was the work of angry bleeding women, and demonic Mexican rapists too far gone on drugs to even pretend to be civilised.

And yet as the whole world now nows, the Donald just loves to eat tacos ...

Yep, that's just a sample of the firestorm of fierce intellectual debate that surrounds the Donald.

Oh that, and walking away from the national debt ...

Now of course the minute he said it, he walked back from the notion, and that's the way he proceeds. Which results in this sort of debate ...

Analyzing Donald Trump policy proposals is a fool’s errand. I am a fool: Behold my errand.

The pond just loved that opener, with the rest here, and this as the punchline ...

...it doesn’t matter that Trump said something insane and destructive. His fans do not care, and never have cared, about whether his policy positions are good or even coherent. Life is pain, and the 2016 election is making it more painful.

Now there's a fine debate.

But please, allow the pond to return to the fatuous tomfoolery of prattling Polonius, who not only thinks that a sensible debate is possible, but that the Donald has a lot going for him ...

So the Donald is all the fault of the violent left ...

And it's the left's addiction to expressive politics wot done it ...

As opposed to the inexpressive, mute, almost graveyard sombre politics of the Donald ...

And at that point, a meaningful discussion of the way the meandering Polonius is teetering and tottering towards clinical insanity might be useful ...

Never mind, it's the pond's duty to follow Polonius, and around this point in any Polonius piece, he can be relied upon to veer away from the immediate subject at hand - such as whether Trumpism is the Republican cause - tell that to Red State and the National Review - so he might shout more generally at sundry offensive clouds ...

What's this got to do with the Donald, who shows no sign of being silenced, or in any way being sensible, since proposing Ted Cruz's dad was involved in the assassination of JFK is too weird even for the pond?

Not much, but when you're an angry old white man shouting at clouds, it's good to crank up sundry grievances and blame everybody for your suffering.

Never mind the National Enquirer, and the Donald talking about JFK, and presumably prattling Polonius endorsing this as an intelligent policy matter worthy of debate and discussion...

It would seem the suggestion that this sort of carry-on deserves heckling would no doubt be frowned upon, as an attempt to shut down debate and silence the voices of conservatives ...

Oh heck, enough of the analysis, it's time for a good lump of Polonius.

The pond always finds the gruel goes down best if you just stuff a large gobbet into the noggin and hope it doesn't stick on the way down ... because, as usual, the US grievance turns out to be an excuse to trot out standard complaints about the state of affairs down under ...

Well there you go, the pond's duty is done, and how splendid to see suffering local conservatives compared to the suffering of Trump supporters ...

Only in the fetid, weird world of Polonius's noggin ... but then he would say that, since his entire argument seems to be that error has all sorts of rights, and as an error-laden scribbler, prattling Polonius is always righteous ...

Will someone hear the pond's plea? Put on a festival featuring Polonius ... the pond guarantees the ticket sales will be mind-blowing ... not to mention the quality of the debate. Right up there with the quality of the debate at a Trump rally ...

Oh the pond never tires of it, never tires at all ...

  1. 'There's no link between coal mining and climate change' says the man who believes there are Walri in Antarctica.

The sun was shining on the sea,
    Shining with all his might:
He did his very best to make
    The billows smooth and bright--
And this was odd, because it was
    The middle of the night.

    The moon was shining sulkily,
    Because she thought the sun
Had got no business to be there
    After the day was done--
"It's very rude of him," she said,
"To come and spoil the fun!"

The sea was wet as wet could be,
The sands were dry as dry.
You could not see a cloud, because
No cloud was in the sky:
    No birds were flying overhead--
There were no birds to fly.

    The Walrus and the Carpenter
    Were walking close at hand;
They wept like anything to see
    Such quantities of sand:
"If this were only cleared away,"
They said, "it would be grand"

    1. Just as temperature variance isn't a water quality, there's also no missing link between clean coal and ocean acidification, either.

  2. Ah, yes Polonius dear, our tax payer dollars. Isn't it funny how right wing nutters always assume that they are always the only people who pay tax?

  3. *sigh* - Polonious.... he's a tedious old bugger, isn't he? Reading his stuff is a bit like visiting an aged relative - one of whom you're not really that fond - in the dementia ward. Once a week you listen to them blather on and on and on, endlessly repeating themselves about that nice Mr Menzies, and how awful the Reds are - but you do so though a sense of duty or obligation, rather than because you enjoy it or think it worthwhile.

And really, Gerard -"Leftist favourite" Tony Windsor? Not to mention your list of "Left of Centre" speakers ....(Jayzuzz, is Phil Adams still alive?) . Are things really that simplistic in Hendotown that _anyone_ with whom you've disagreed in the last 50 years is some sort of undercover Maoist?

  4. Today we could celebrate the anniversary of the Cult of the Supreme Being, who incidentally was female with a commitment to reason, liberty and democracy. But then we all know what happened to Robespierre.

  6. Are people who are not 'green-Leftists' (as Henderson uses the term) likely to either write books worth reading or attend a festival dedicated to reading?
