Send in the water cannons for a Sunday drenching of the sheep, thanks to Sky and Peta and Concetta ...

Naturally the pond was pleased.

Send in the water cannons for a spot of joyous celebration ...

The pond had been wondering what might occupy a Sunday meditation and had thought for a moment of looking abroad at the sort of wondrous remark that might be found in the WSJ:

Israelis for Daesh. Now there's a compelling concept ...

Almost as compelling as democracy at work in Queensland, with politicians determined to pay no heed to the useless voters ...

But it seems the time wasters might have done the right thing, so there's no need to send in the water cannon ... roll on the next irrelevant, handsomely budgeted $160 million public opinion poll, which can be ignored at leisure ...

But in the end, none of it had the compelling appeal of the results this day ...

Freedom boy ready to person the water cannons, while the pond wept tears of joy to hear that Concetta had made it back to the top ...

Oh, she didn't retain top spot, but she retains top spot? How does the magic work?

Yes, in these topsy turvy days, Concetta is thought to be rather soft ... or at least inclined to blab ...

How could this be?

The pond almost shed tears reading Concetta's maiden speech, full of rich and redolent insights ...

Over the years, I have also supported a number of important causes. I support our current constitutional arrangements. Through my work with Australians for a Constitutional Monarchy, I have worked for its retention. I also uphold our flag as an unchanging and timeless symbol of the values and virtues that unify our society...

...While some seek to gloss over divisions in our society by affirming a desire for harmonious coexistence and religious tolerance, divisions do exist. We need to address them before the rifts become so deep that our society’s very existence is threatened. Australia is a tolerant and compassionate society founded on understanding and respecting social and religious differences. Our success as a culturally diverse society comes from putting our commitment to Australia first.

Values and beliefs are important in the mainstream of Australian political life. However, there are those in our society who find talk about values abhorrent—the so-called ‘chattering classes’, the elites whose view of life is distorted by their inane fixation with the politics of the lowest common denominator, an outdated socialist ideology that rejects a belief in the power of the individual. The success of the Howard government has been to reject this ideology.

Indeed, indeed. Damn you chattering classes, damn you distorting, inane elites.

Thank heavens there are no back room elites who've got Concetta's back, so that we might continue to garner further rich insights of the Concetta kind ...

Indeed, indeed, oh mighty, splendid 'Gong.

Riddle the pond this ... why aren't they content to live in sin, fornicating like the pagan heathens they are and then spend their time in the eternity of hellfire they richly deserve ...?

Ah those damned chattering classes. It goes without saying that SSM will tear apart the social fabric of loyal monarchists and result in the destruction of monogamous marriage ... why next thing you know, polygamy will be spreading faster than Mormonism and bestiality a national sport. Bring out the water cannon ...

Of course the recent fuss about Concetta was a by-product of other ongoing ructions, and the pond was delighted to see that soon we would be having expert commentary offered on her wretched behaviour, from an independent and totally reliable witness ...

Yes, things are so desperate and attention-seeking and all-round pathetic verging on the tragic that Sky has moved from the Bolter on Pell to Credlin on the lot of them ...

No wonder Telstra is thinking of the best way to exit Foxtel ... what with the way that the intertubes, despite the best efforts of Malware and copper wiring, is threatening the business model (please, the pond is only up to episode 7 of OJ, and still doesn't know how it ends, no spoilers please, but at least we finally learned how the Kardashians began).

It seems everything these days is entertainment of a ghoulish kind ...

To put pressure on both sides? Wait, the pond gets it ... to put pressure on the Billistas and Malware. Send in the water cannons.

But surely the true loyalists need fear nothing, the ones who stayed through thick and thin... and thank the long absent lord that Sky subscribers will be paying for genuine, authentic, informed, insightful, independent, and utterly unbiassed commentary ...

Finally the pond should note the most recent honourable attempt to keep the original Savva controversy alive, and when all else fails, if you can't send in the water cannons, you should send in the clowns with only a loose grasp of reality ...

That was written, of course, before the hard rain began falling at Sky ... which will no doubt drench Savva and her vile, treacherous sort with a toxic sheep spray of the kind even the hardened farmers around Tamworth have stopped using.

Loosely manages, in what the reptiles are pleased to dub a review, to ask Savva to solve assorted unanswerable questions ...

No doubt it was a deplorable failure by Savva not to ring up Queen Betty or Phil the Greek, and ask them point blank, bluntly, in a direct way, 'Betty did you really ask the wall puncher for that honour for hubbie Phil the Greek?'

Naturally the monarch would have 'fessed up on the spot, while there's no doubt that a direct question to the wall puncher himself, would have produced an honest, informative reply. Yep, it wuz Queen Betty that put me on the spot and in a right pickle, and if you speak to her, she'll 'fess up her crime in a trice ...

And that explains just why the loose Loosely is so perfectly placed to write a political primer for dummies ...

Well enough of this rambling, even if rambling is a prerequisite of a Sunday meditation ...

The pond sometimes looks back fondly to the glory of the old days when the Pellists wrote a column for the Terror and the Jensenists could be relied upon for more than an occasional foray at The Drum and Islamic schools were being funded by taxpayers to deliver a special brand of fundamentalism and the latest story about Scientology and revealing memoirs seemed fresh, even if Russell Miller had first scribbled Bare-faced Messiah back in 1987 ...

These days the bare-faced messiahs and the aged commentariat can't be relied on, and it's all Concetta and Peta and wall-punching and the pleasures of getting out the water cannon, and the IPA, having already taken over the ABC, now set to take over the federal parliament ...

So the pond will just have to settle for a novelty item ...

Send in the water cannon, though the pond should add, that's silly little hats for men ... it seems no one much notices or cares about silly little hats for women ...

As if women aren't up to the challenge ...

  1. Anyone else getting the feeling the IPA is close to failing (I would imagine donations from certain extractive industries are slipping a bit), and few rats may be jumping ship?
Or is that just wishful thinking?

    1. Yeah, there has been a few bailouts in recent times. One I used to see often in Fairfax media was Chris Berg who seems to have disappeared without trace. Or maybe I just can't be bothered looking for him.

But I reckon the 'filthy fuel' lobby is still very alive and well in Ausland, and even the tobacco lobby would still be in there.

The thing I can't fathom though is whether the IPA is part of Ausland's 'Wingnut Welfare' network or not. It often seems to instead be an apprenticeship organization feeding the likes of Freedom Boi and his juvenile mate into the LNP political sphere.

Nonetheless, we can but hope GH, we can but hope - but then, as they say, be careful of what you hope for; a replacement for the IPA could be even worse (yes, hard to imagine, I know).

    2. In the interests of ideological purity and statutory balance, Berg has set up shop at Auntie's. If that helps.

  2. Marriage 'glorifies' fornication? What an odd view.

  5. Have you ever wondered what a hat full of arseholes would look like Dorothy or who would wear it? I know I have.

  6. With the donkey vote done it looks like Newman would've been in at least until an election this coming October! Time to leave Queensland?

  8. On a water cannon day, I shouldn't be noticing sleaze or drawing attention to it. But that first pic of Concetta with Abbott staring over her shoulder was a bit worrying...

  9. Fierravanti-Wells:

“The chattering classes do not want to concede that, by amending the Marriage Act, they are in fact denying the rights of the silent majority who want to uphold the sanctity and true meaning of marriage”

The number of marriages in Australia is about 119,000 per year and the divorces are about 48,000 per year so, it seems, 96,000 people per year who belong to the silent majority do not uphold the sanctity and true meaning of marriage.

I really didn’t want to shoot Fierravanti-Wells down in flames but I just couldn’t resist.

    1. Worse, the chattering ' I do' classes seem to embrace the abnormality of civil celebrations.

    2. Oh, so that's where he is. Gracias. And that explains things because I watch The Drum about as often as DP watches quanda (and me too).

I wondered whether/when Fairfax would get round to dropping him.

    3. Ooops, clicked the wrong 'Reply'. That was about Chris Berg.
