In which the reptiles exercise dominion ...

A splendid conjunction arose this day thanks to First Dog - more Dog here - and the reptiles of Oz.

Naturally the reptiles are deeply concerned for Indian peasants, and  certainly not filthy rich Indians nor the capacity of a select band of Australians to become even filthy richer by working with said Indians, nor is there any need to display any particular interest in the complexities of the issues or the way forward, as discussed in The Price of Light: India's Huge Need for Electricity is a Problem for the Planet.

Above all, there's no need for any mawkish sentimentality along the lines of "won't somebody think of the creatures".

The fix is already in on that one:

Genesis 1:26 - And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Genesis 1:28 - And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Luke 10:19 - Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

So much for critters. Besides, critter care and thinking is trumped in spades by "why won't the greenies think of Indian peasants like the caring reptiles of Oz".

Sheesh, bloody god-forsaken bloody bird. Didn't it read the fine print about the fowl of the air? Did it think the rule should only apply to every creeping thing that creepeth onto the hot rocks in the Surry Hills bunker?

Never mind, it's time to read a balanced, judicious assessment of the assorted issues:

Roll on Shenhua.

Forgot all those sob stories along the lines of Community calls on PM Malcolm Turnbull to stop Shenhua mine on Liverpool plains.

Why it's a well known fact that farmers are about as useful as a bloody useless finch, and besides, won't someone think of the Chinese government ...

And so to the rest of that First Doggie cartoon ...

    1. Why do you insist on providing more evidence that the ABC must be abolished to make way for more commercial, market-orientated services Anon?

  3. Hmmm I guess if The Australian had checked the average temperatures in most of India, they would have realised that "heating" isn't such a big issue. I guess it wouldn't sound so morally virtuous to say the poor Indians need our coal so they can have air-conditioning - and also might make people think hey wouldn't solar be better then?

    These coal-floggers are getting desparate.

  4. DP, it's becoming quite clear there is an infiltration of ideology that holds up progress. Naming just one of terrorist brigades, those darn hipsters on fixies.

  5. "And because this would "allegedly" harm the GBR.
    Got that?
You can't mine coal because someone will burn it.
This is not access to justice. This is a sickening display of first world self indulgence"...........Slams forehead onto keyboard.

Sort of explains the desperation to get the TPP up: to nobble any environmental opposition to anything that might make a buck, and stuff the consequences. Well I've made my humble donation to the ACF court challenge because I'm a first world kinda guy. Meanwhile back at the coal face of those desperate to turn on the lights for India,or bring world gas pricing parity to Australians,

On an equally disturbing note this day.

  6. The Indian Government will make sure any Aussie coal that is burned on their watch will provide cheaper electricity for the upper and middle classes. Not the poor. Damn them, they can continue to use cow dung. Building the infrastructure required to connect them to electricity is just too hard. Besides, when you've got 800 million people living in relative comfort, why should you care about the other 450 million? That's the way it works in India - just the same as it does in Australia: dress up action that benefits the wealthy as something you're doing for the poor.

But line the pockets of the rich while ignoring the poor? Well, they can be ignored, but they are a critical part of the process, so they must continue to exist. They are the essential scapegoat, allowing rich people to feel better about themselves, while they help themselves to the loot.

  7. Get thee to a shopping mall stat!

"All they need to do is follow basic precautions like avoiding working in the sun. Not many listen. What can we do? It's a problem of poverty."
